@toniwriter I have done just that this week! So far only positive feedback but it's early days and like you dreading what could become a very personal attack. But you can do it! ♥️
@DrVixRibbons @Therapists_C Thank you! I know exactly what you mean - I love therapy and am a big supporter of it but that doesn't mean being silenced when something isn't right or that the profession is untouchable.
Excited to be appearing on the Very Bad Therapy podcast next month to discuss the lack of regulation in the UK and the HCPC failings that have enmeshed that further still. Will have to work on my posh voice!

@aclientfirst@goodfig73_g@anidelaprida Only if the govt mandates that counselling and therapy be regulated, accredited registers don't allow for the protection of titles (in my understanding) so the PSA could hold these registers but can't impose the regulation of the terms w/o authority.
Mostly overwhelmed with positive feedback and amazingly honest discussions, but still far too much 'victim' blaming and client onus for therapeutic relationships gone bad - it is not their job to hold that space.
@aclientfirst@goodfig73_g@anidelaprida This is possible, though sanctions will be definitive rather than token gestures and won't allow for practitioners to continue using their titles. I don't have the blueprint for a perfect system and believe me I don't have faith in govt, but what we have is inadequate.
@goodfig73_g@anidelaprida This doesn't undo what happened to you or me, but can save the next person and that's something I think is really valuable and worth fighting for.
@goodfig73_g@anidelaprida The hope is to prevent as much harm as possible, ideally if these situations happen they are handled appropriately and perpetrators are prevented from practicing (temporarily or permanently) and so the harm does not spread, unfortunately can't prevent it all though.
@goodfig73_g @DonnaMBottomley It's so heavy to be doubted and have to fight for your voice all the time. The bacp aren't fit for purpose to handle complaints and appropriate behaviour, they can accredit courses and approve quals but it's beyond their scope for more (imo).
@goodfig73_g @DonnaMBottomley Still a complete eradication and invalidation of feelings - even when it is not intentional a therapist should be able to say 'ah, what a fuck up, sorry' (or something more appropriate), not try to erase the experience. I'm sorry you know this too.
@anidelaprida@goodfig73_g Thank you, unfortunately mine isn't a unique story and I'm so keen to push the notion of fully accountable regulation as far as I can take it!
@mirkacoaching@Therapists_C My own experience of an abusive therapist and an overview of therapy in the UK - the lack of regulation and the impact this can have.
