I grew up extremely slim and I'm still quite slim so I guess I can talk about it.
Slim people are body shamed, extensively and hurtfully.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a wedding with my classmate. While we were there, he introduced me to his aunt and the woman told him in Yoruba that she hoped I was not his girlfriend because my "neck was dry".
She assumed that I wouldn't understand what she said and that made it all the more hurtful.
As a child, people used to ask if my parents were starving me. Random strangers would walk up to me, wrap their hands around my wrists and comment on how thin I was. People would tell me that I wouldn't find a husband because men don't want bones.
Two truths can coexist. Fat people are body shamed and thin people are body shamed. None is more hurtful than the other. None is pleasant. None should be dismissed.
I’m emotional rn 😖 God gave me a gift, so I’m constantly chasing excellence to keep getting better. We’re a small but hungry team & I know we will find the greatness we seek. Love Asake & his team for being kind & trusting us with this story ❤️ Pls watch https://t.co/Z8Gz8ZbbDU
No one talks about how draining it is when your mood is constantly switching between "Its okay, I don't care. I'll be okay" and "I don't know how much more I can take".
support for situations like this, please tell me. Even sharing this or giving advice could make a difference.
I’m trying so hard to stay strong, but right now. Please help if you can. I will also post her videos and incidents. I sent messages to people on instagram but none reply
Today, we went to the National Hospital Abuja, hoping to get help for my mom. Thankfully, we were able to meet with a doctor. He asked me some questions, and I did my best to explain everything. He also spoke with my mom and asked her a few questions so he can properly examine
Apparently this is an early post.
- First, wait to find out the specific hospital you matched into.
- Reach out and ask if they are willing to sponsor you for O-1A visa (it is not part of the banned visas).
- There's no reason why they can't sponsor you but expect most hospitals to push back because this is a new territory for them (so be ready to pushback too). This is because they are used to H1B and J-1. The O-1A is better than both.
- Also, due to expertise in writing the O-1A Petition, expect hospital lawyers to attempt to resist but tell them you can write it yourself and all they have to do is sponsor you and pay the petition filing fees.
- This visa has a 93% approval rate.
- It does not carry the $100k fee like the H1B.
- It doesn't require you to go back to your Home Country like the J-1.
- Its a dual intent visa meaning you don't have to prove home ties. In layman terms, the main hurdle is getting the petition approved. Once approved, you visa interview is just a casual conversation.
- The Visa is valid for 3 years, and unlike the H1B that you can only renew twice, you can renew this indefinitely.
- To qualify, there are 8 criteria and you have to meet 3. There are specific evidence required for each criterion. If you matched, there's a high chance you meet at least 3.
- Once you've gotten a go-ahead from the hospital, then you can reach out regarding putting your petition together.
