When Marina Abramovic placed herself at the mercy of a crowd of strangers in an art studio in Naples in 1974, she had no idea what to expect.

Construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 but was halted in the years around 1560, unfinished. The project was completed to its original Medieval plan in 1880 — taking over 600 years to construct.
