@MissBeck12@Mikel_Jollett Trump is a convicted felon rapist, but that's not true either - right? And he should've gone to jail a while ago for his crimes, the United States justice system will catch you, but it does take time.
@GavinHenry1980 Conservatives understand this and are tired of Trump. I'm seeing quite a few Republicans either not voting, voting for anyone but Trump, or voting Harris for president but red for the rest. GOP needs to get back to talking actual policy for the people
If Trump goes down yet again on Tuesday, the GOP will have some existential decisions to make.
It will have lost four of the last five presidential elections and its loudest MAGA base will be internally fractured as the craziest voices seek to attract attention as the next circus leader (Tucker, Gaetz, MTG, etc.). But the obvious lesson will be that Trumpism is a waning force and will never again reach its 2016 high tide under any other demagogue.
The question for the party will be whether it can keep enough normal people in the tent to pose any competitive challenge in primaries to the hardcore MAGA types. If the GOP doubles down on crazy, the party will continue to radicalize itself into irrelevance.
And the problem: it has already pushed a lot of those normal people away for good—calling them the “enemy within”, “human scum,” etc. It also adopted an entirely different populist platform based on Trump’s whims that rejects American leadership and embraces a hodgepodge of tariffs and xenophobia.
Drawing back in the folks the GOP will need to be a serious party again will take a major and clear ‘break’ with this recent past—but there seems to be zero capacity for that type of leadership in the party right now.
