Most of us, when we’ve been in her shoes, would have just kept quiet. But she recognized the fault in that logic and it gives me hope that the years of discussion I’ve had with her over just saying my way or the highway was the right thing to do ^^

Today my kiddo did something almost all teens do; fib to their parents so they can hang out with their friends without a parent. When she told me afterwards, I could have yelled at her, grounded her, make her feel ashamed. But instead I talked to her.

But most of all, I thanked her for acknowledging her mistake and coming to me and telling me the truth, rather than hiding it and continuing the lie. That she was able to realize the error of her ways and own it is a hard thing for young teens to do.

It’s been so long since I’ve had local irl friends that I can hang out with that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to have consistent interactions with others. Sucks being stuck in a state you can’t leave and be alone every single day.
