@Matt5cott You’re pretending that the argument is solely about income tax rather than tax in general. You’d rather sustain this fantasy than acknowledge what Gary is actually saying in the video you yourself have posted.
@SamCKx Been here before with Trump. Don’t mean to downplay the significance of this but saying things like ‘he’s done for’ is naive and unhelpful. Can’t keep thinking the rules are going to save us
@lesthecroc Bad faith - this was immediately after the leadership election and he was arguing for critical support which at that time was fair enough. Doesn’t mean he ‘fell’ for Starmer, he supported RLB
@lewis_goodall Yeah nice one he’s spent decades getting to this point so he’s just gonna give up once he finally has a chance at PM. Think wishful thinking prejudicing your analysis here. He probably plans on aping Trump by just carrying on regardless
@soldierpaypig I mean, this was a frustrating interview at the time but ultimately he was right that Corbyn’s Labour weren’t connecting with post-industrial towns
@pete_sinclair What does ‘firm’ mean? He’s talking about not doing it in this parliament but Labour will likely lose majority in next election. Why would the Greens stand down without even trying to extract something from him first?
@jemgilbert Bigger gamble is whether the NEC are actually going to approve this. You have to think surely they will but you can’t rule out stupidity either
@OisinMul_ None whatsoever! But why do socialists need to be falling in line behind some sort of mecha-socialist in the first place? Can’t they exist independent of the leader/party they are working with at that time?
@maxshanly Speaking as someone dithering about joining the Greens and agrees with everything you’ve said - wouldn’t this argument feel more constructive if it was made from within the party itself? I don’t see how a lot of this doesn’t also apply to YP
@peligrietzer I really do like 1984. ‘Totalitarianism may be oppressive, but it helps a lot of people feel contented loving their leader, so it’s impossible to say if it’s bad or not’ is an amazing thesis for a novel to have
