The Oakleigh House made me think about how history is told and who tells it. Hearing about the people who worked in the cook’s house gave me a new perspective on strength, resilience, and the importance of sharing every side of the story. #OakleighHouse,#AFRusa25 ,@kemjacks
Visiting the Oakleigh House Museum reminded me that history isn’t just about dates. It’s about people who survived. Seeing the main house and the cook’s house side by side showed how privilege and struggle existed within the same walls. #OakleighHouse,

Walking through Oakleigh House yesterday was extremely powerful. The beauty of the main home contrasts sharply with the reality of those who labored behind it. It’s a reminder that progress begins when we face the full truth of our past .#AFRusa25 ,#OakleighHouse,@kemjacks
As I was walking around the festival today my friends and I met this wonderful man named Oliver with signs. I asked him a few questions and he told us he was there to spread awareness. He wanted to spread awareness since today is No Kings Day.#AFRusa25,#historicavenue,@kemjacks
There was a young lady at the healing festival that was doing sound therapy. I really enjoyed how soothing it was. It sort of gives you an out of body experience. The lady told me sound therapy can help relax you and help with stress. #AFRusa25,#historicavenue@kemjacks
Today in my African American Studies class we attended the Healing Festival at the Historic Avenue Cultural Center. It was a great experience to the community come together. I enjoyed the sound therapy that was near the entrance.#AFRusa25,#historicavenue@kemjacks
Elegy 186 Without Stopping is full of patterns on a blue canvas. The museum worker said it connects to Africa Town suddenly it clicked the mix of shapes isn’t chaos it’s community.
Standing in front of Elegy XC (90), Mothers left me speechless. The head shaped canvas, the watermelon slice, the tiny figures reaching up. In my eyes
it's about the grief of mothers who’ve lost children.
@Reylina115583@MobMuseumofArt@kemjacks I agree with you on how our own roots affect our homes and the lives inside of them. If you come from a family that is happy your home will be happy and vibrant. Your childhood affects your roots which affects how you raise your own family.#AFRusa25 , @MobMuseumofArt, @kemjacks.
@AyanaBrown28263@MobMuseumofArt@kemjacks I agree with you when you said that the stacked pieces look like a story coming together. But as I look at it I wonder what the meaning of the story is. I wonder who the story is about, does it have a happy ending, or a sad tragic ending.#AFRusa25 , @MobMuseumofArt, @kemjacks.
@MyRiah43398@MobMuseumofArt@kemjacks I agree with you when you said this painting is a visual burst of energy. The painting makes you think about what could have inspired it This painting is one that will you think about long after you've walked away.#AFRusa25, @MobMuseumofArt, @kemjacks.
Elegy CLXX (170) has a bright turquoise background, sharp white lines, and a heavy dark oval split with delicate lace-like patterns. It feels like something caught between strength and fragility, order and chaos.
The title of the documentary Mississippi:Is this America? really hits me. It forces me to look at the gap between the ideals of America from now and then. It's very unsettling to realize that the same nation that claims to stand for freedom stands for such violence.

The murders of Medgar Evers, Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner, and the constant threats to activists, show just how far Mississippi would go to protect segregation. It’s horrifying but the backlash also pushed more people to take action. #AFRusa25
One of the most powerful moments is Fannie Lou Hamer’s testimony at the Democratic National Convention. She makes it clear that being an American isn’t just about having papers or being born here—it’s about being recognized and treated with dignity. #AFRusa25
Cont. Watching her fight for that recognition makes you realize that citizenship and freedom are things people had to claim for themselves, not just wait to be given.
@AmberBurro2006 This post is so beautiful to me it shows how we are all human. But volunteers from all over the country came to support the cause of equality.
