Back in 2008, David Stearns interned with the Mets under Omar Minaya.

Minaya suggested to the Wilpons that Stearns should be hired full time by the Mets to help with baseball operations.

The Wilpons said no, and Stearns was later hired by the Guardians, and eventually the Brewers where he became the President of Baseball Operations and led the team to four straight consecutive playoff berths ranging from 2018-2021.

15 years after the Wilpons shut him down, Uncle Stevie said yes.
