The oddysey of a charismatic...
It's often a great dilemma to contend for purity of doctrinal emphasis and yet within the very ambits of sound theology promote the work of the spirit, power of God, and the miraculous.
Somewhat, because it appears the 19th and 20th century famed revivals made such distinction in having specific emphasis of scriptural themes, it's challenging, since most denominations arose from revivals.
As the nature of historical revivals are, emphasis are often single concept related.
We discussed this in much detail in the books
"Charismatic Ministry volumes 1&2.
So where for example the emphasis on tongues, and gifts of the spirit was made, it appears unconsciously a polemic against sound theology.
Also, where faith in God's word was emphasized, it appears it wasn't provided the template of sound understanding of the written word in some quarters.
Since such emphasis happened seemingly independently of each other unlike how it is in scriptures, any attempt at emphasizing all together is met with suspicion of despising the other.
I once was added to a Blackberry group in 2010 filled with believers of the reformed theology inclination. (Its the first and last of such I so join)
They were at home with my jolly embrace of scriptures taught in clarity without additives.
They saw me as sound in doctrine, different from" Charlatans ".
The journey was smooth till a mockery on speaking in tongues was posted.
I decided to engage everyone on it.
The silence was overwhelming after my submission.
The group either ended or I was excommunicated or both.
The administrator personally Engaged me later.
To paraphrase his query, he said "it's almost incredible for someone like you to still subscribe to all that word of faith heresy"
It had NOTHING to do with not being able to answer him.
Just the surprise.
He took me on, on his alleged disavowal with Kenneth Hagin teaching.
The more I answered the more he was incensed.
A year later, with my charismatic fellow ministers was the tag"puritan word of faith " for taking exegesis over the spirit (or personal Rhema), in their analysis.
The story and narrative still subsists.
We are used to historical revivals with peculiar emphasis without recourse eventually to all of God's written word.
The coming days will be better and clearer.
We shall grow up into
A doctrinally sound
Charismatic
Missionary
Church...
With Steady numerical growth without compromise.
Amen

Me and my Anti Charismatic Ministry scholar friend earlier this morning 🙂
I am sure you won’t be defending the charismatic gangsterism of throwing your suits at people like ..(mentions a popular televangelist), such unbiblical practices are rife amongst your Pentecostal clan “
Ohh, suits? How’s that unbiblical and gangsterism in comparison to the constant use of saliva by Jesus to minister God’s power, i am pretty sure you would have called him a charlatan back then
( I think suits are neater than deeply eked spit and saliva with mucus 🤣)
When you choose to criticize weird stuff, the Bible will definitely not be your Defence, it’s disappointing in this regard 🙂

The blood of Jesus ransomed us and set us free. It paid in full all of man’s debts. Glory to God!

Christianity is not merely a commitment to try to stop sinning in our own strength. It is actually a person receiving the life and nature of God into one’s spirit. That new nature is one of righteousness and holiness which then enables us to live right.
