+ev in laymen's terms:
You need to be somewhat successful most of the time more than you are very unsuccessful some of the time.
Or
You need to be very successful some of the time more than you are somewhat unsuccessful most of the time.
@MikeBellafiore Agree on not setting your goals too low or setting arbitrary goals, but the irony of your post Mike is that you're quoting absolute dollar amounts. This is rather arbitrary to us (who have no idea how much capital is deployed to get to say $1M month). A % goal makes more sense!
@AlphaMind101 Trading one's PnL curve is actually a major hack for this. The daily PnL becomes contextualized in the larger PnL, and looking at it doesn't phase you nearly as much. In fact an outlier win also becomes grounds for examining whether it's time to pause (to prevent mean reversion)
@AlphaMind101 Currently in the midst of a winning streak and process is equally important to ensure that I don't falter. I feel like I unlocked a secret to trading by simply giving my trading an intentional pause after a hot streak...settles both the mind and my PnL curve
@GoshawkTrades This only applies to selling naked options π€¦πΎββοΈ
Vertical spreads have a well defined max loss and can result in incredibly smooth equity curves. The main challenge is actually having an edge, or else that curve will be smooth like a slide.
@Ramblin_Rebel13@TheOneLanceB I find the lifestyle of shorter timeframes for a short duration (say 2hrs a day) far less stressful than holding for weeks
@TechLayoffLover This is no different than former computer engineering students bypassing hardware knowledge and going striaght to coding. This became known as CS
@Logically_Left@CCPISASSH0E Even the 80s was crazy. Culture and economic ambition kept people GOING (think the movie Wall Street, the influx of drugs, Hollywood and music paving new ground and keeping people on the edge of their seats, TV, consumerism and commercials keeping people tracking trends/deals).
@TheOneLanceB I find that when I fail to prepare properly, I immediately pay the price. Talent or muscle memory alone isn't nearly enough.
The line about devoting 100% of your focus toward 10% of the unknowns is on point and will try to remember this the next time I try to get fancy
