Are you a person who a) has ADHD and b) is presenting at #4c23? @digiwonk and I are making a short film about ADHD and conference papers--filmed, edited, & presented on site--and we want to talk to you! DM one of us if you think this is cool & you can spare 15ish min on Thurs!
At the liquor store:
Pre-Covid: Don’t worry, I’m not drinking all this alone—I’m just having a party!
Post-Covid: Don’t worry, I’m not having a party—I’m just drinking all this alone!
@cjp_still Exactly this--I try to only assign things I'll be genuinely excited to read. Also, a bonus of heavily emphasizing exigence is that every paper makes a case for why I should care.
@marlowjm@NCTE_CCCC This also happened to me! But this morning when I finally got a moment to go back and try to puzzle it out, the rejection email had disappeared. Curious.
It is December 27 and @AlaskaAir is pumping “Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime” while we board. I would like to be compensated for my inconvenience and suffering.
Dreamed I ran into my grade school PE teacher.
Me: Mr. B! You used to teach me like 25 years ago!
Him: So sorry, but I don't remember you.
Me: That's okay; I was terrible at everything.
Him: Oh that's right...
My body can't do a layup, but my brain can sure dunk on myself.
I take back my last tweet about hoping for a ghost in the building. There was just a fearsome clank in the next office over and now I have the adrenaline sweats.
It's a Friday night and I've been on campus for hours writing and practicing new karaoke songs during my breaks but just now there was an UNEXPECTED THUMP at the other end of the supposedly empty hall. Please please just be a ghost who just really likes Lizzo.
I can't stop thinking about the woman at my book signing who told me that she reads 30 books a year but had never read a book by a black author. She smiled when she said it.
Writing about a shitty article Hugo Schwyzer wrote for Jezebel in 2011 and accidentally gave it Spongebob-style caps. But seriously, "ThE ReAl rEaSoN YoU ShOuLdN't fUcK yOuR PrOfEsSoR" really captures the compelling elegance of his argument, which is "b/c you'd be disappointed."
@AnnaHolmes Decade-old question from a stranger out of nowhere, but: out of curiosity, who came up with the name for Groupthink? Was that you, or Denton, or a mysterious GMG cabal?
Today's discussion has me thinking: I'd like to consciously amplify the voices of scholars of color in my research and teaching, but obvs not all POC explicitly identify as such in their work. Is there an existing resource to help with this?
