There was a lot of good that was in this budget, and it is a shame that it was tainted by the mayor's ideological demands - demands which put all New Yorkers in harms way and will only lead this city down a path to ruin. The refusal to fund the 5th Firefighter on our engine companies, to adequately man our police force, or to raise the pay of our EMS workers, among so many other things, while overfunding the Mayor's self-serving, politically motivated agencies and projects, were unacceptable and, to be completely honest, downright dangerous.
Not surprisingly, the mayor put ideology over reality with this budget, and for this reason I cannot vote in its favor. That is why I voted no on this year's budget.
On this week's episode of "Rockaway Fridays with The Wave," we discuss this week's front page, the permanent extension of QM15 bus service, and the upcoming Democratic primary on Tuesday, June 23.

The moment that Fred Wilpon gained 50% ownership of the #Mets following the 1986 World Series, everything changed in how the organization was run.
True, Fred was the team president from 1980 to 1986, but with Nelson Doubleday as chairman, and Frank Cashen as GM, the baseball ops was left alone, as Doubleday wanted it that way.
It was Doubleday writing the checks, Cashen making the deals (and hiring the manager), and Davey running the team.
Once Fred became a 50% partner, he now had the authority to insert himself into every aspect of how the team was run.
Cashen began delegating more and more to Joe McIllvaine and Al Harazin, which created even more moving pieces. Davey now had to deal with three GMs (basically), and Cashen and his assistants had to deal with two owners, one of whom (Fred) who thought he was a savvy baseball guy.
A once model franchise was changed irrevocably.

Our roads are falling apart, & NY'ers are tired of patch jobs that barely last. Enough is enough.
The @NYC_DOT needs to start listening to the people of this city, & stop catering solely to vanity projects.
