The San Francisco Giants have officially hired Bruce Bochy as their next manager today.
Bochy had been the manager of the Padres since 1995 where he took them to the playoffs 4 times.
Vinny Mallozzi spent 38 years making The NY Times a better newspaper and, more importantly, making everyone around him smile w/ his kindness, wit and NYC street smarts. He covered hoops, weddings & everything in between. We were all fortunate to have him in our lives. RIP, Vinny.
I'm excited to be joining @NFHSNetwork as a play-by-play announcer! I'm calling the Suffolk County High School Girls Soccer AAA Final (Sachem East vs Connetquot) on Thursday at 7pm and the Boys Soccer Class B and A Finals Friday at 4pm and 6pm. #SchwartzOnSports#NFHS ⚽️
Brett Gardner is under this ball for ten minutes and catches it without the showboating and theatrics. What happened to the game I love? Chandler Simpson should worry more about the game than about being on a highlight reel. It’s why the Rays are losing. They’re selfish.
Maybe Kevin Long shouldn’t have told anyone he had an interview with #Mets before it happened.
There’s an old superstition that I practice:
“If you talk about something before it happens, it invites disaster”
Tom Clancy wrote about this Irish jinx in one of his books, and I believe it.
Now, I’m not saying it’s the reason Long wasn’t hired, but it surely did not help him.
I like Kevin Long, but the moment I read about it. I knew it could only be coming from one direction, and I knew it wasn’t going to happen.
Respectfully, Luke, no. I know the Hall ‘s various committees have been voting in some debatable candidates of late, but Yelich should not be one of them.
Jim Edmonds was a far better player and will likely never get in.
Kenny Lofton, Graig Nettles. Albeit Belle, even Rusty Staub has a more feasible HOF argument.
All right, assuming that the Brewers sweep to the title, and assuming that Christian Yelich plays a few more seasons and gets, say, 2,000 hits, 275 homers, 1,000 RBIs, and 50 WAR, is Yelich a Hall of Famer?

Unbelievable Ending in Atlanta
A Falcons-Rams showdown for first place in the NFC West
Against nearly impossible odds, on 3rd-and-38 from their own 19 with under two minutes remaining and trailing by four, Falcons quarterback Steve Bartkowski hits Alfred Jackson for 27 yards...
...then on 4th-and-11, Bartkowski fires a 54-yard touchdown strike to Jackson to win the game, 13-10 — their second scoring connection of the afternoon.
I was heavily influenced as a kid by Top Gun. To me, even back then — even with Mav's wildly confident aggression, Ice Man's perfect flat top and jawline, and Slider's impeccable physique — I knew Viper was the coolest of the cool in Miramar.
RIP, Tom Skerritt.
Tom Skerritt was pure class; every time he stepped in front of a camera, he delivered.
Once described as a “character actor locked in a leading man’s body,” he made it all look effortless.
Rest easy, Viper.
