"Lanterns" writer/producer Vanessa Baden Kelly says she wrote the scene where a main character's mother explains racism to an alien who oversees a galactic police force because "it's 1986 and this lady knows nothing about nothing."
She then agrees with an interviewer who claims aliens would have no way to know about racism on Earth because CNN's coverage of the Rodney King riots had not happened yet.
I wonder how many people are watching #Supergirl today on #HBOmax and realizing that itโs nowhere near the โabysmal train wreckโ that the internet tried paint it as.
๐จ DANAI GURIRA GOES OFF ON MARVEL: โBLACK PANTHER IS NOT DEAD!โ
In an interview, Danai Gurira accuses Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige of deliberately sidelining the Black Panther franchise, claiming the studio has been looking for ways to reduce Wakandaโs importance since the demise of Chadwick Boseman.
โThey started sidelining Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman passed. The message was basically, โThereโs no man left to carry this role.โ But that is completely wrong. Black Panther was never supposed to be about one man. It was about Wakanda, its legacy and the people who carry that mantle.โ
She allegedly took an even stronger shot at Marvel and Robert Downey Jr.:
โIf Marvel can bring Robert Downey Jr. back into the universe in a completely different role, then donโt tell me thereโs nobody capable of carrying Black Panther forward. That excuse doesnโt hold up. You can replace a role when you want to, but apparently when it comes to Black Panther, suddenly the rules change.โ
Gurira reportedly questioned why Wakanda was missing from Avengers: Doomsday:
โYou cannot tell me Wakanda is powerful enough to stand beside the Avengers when Marvel needs them, then suddenly make them disappear when the next Avengers movie arrives. That isnโt honoring Chadwickโs legacy, thatโs sidelining the franchise.โ
If Danai Gurira actually said this on a live stream, Marvel fans would have a LOT to say.
