@fikocian@somefoundersalt SpX is a different company today. Their new business is valuation growth, and they work toward that end with storytelling and exploring new verticals. If the business has at bare mi the appearance of value,SpX will chase it. Do you want to be an astroidmining or space station co
@TMFAssociates@Didymus33 Most of firefly’s revenue comes at a loss. CLPS is a poison pill. Even still, their larger rocket is net 2026, easily could be 2027+ and won’t launch 10x before 2031 even with a major cash infusion. As you say, this is all about the story.
@TMFAssociates@Didymus33 Relativity could honestly be a decent buy though. I don’t know Schmidt’s intentions but he paid pennies on the dollar and wouldn’t look bad if he did a quick flip for $6b or whatever. I can’t imagine he wants a ton of stock in a meme company though.
@TMFAssociates@Didymus33 They could just be floating the idea to cover for the raise, knowing very well there really isn’t an ideal lsp for them to purchase. They’re a $22b company with almost no real assets, they should absolutely be using the meme run to buy stuff, a rocket company may not be ideal
@uchevictors@josemlira ULA is booked solid for the next half decade. Firefly’s larger rocket isn’t ready and probably won’t even fly 10 times before 2031. Early reliability may be a factor going forward as well. There’s no ideal buy out there
@TMFAssociates@Didymus33 While firefly may look “good” on the surface to the 🅰️ people, the capital raises to keep it operational will dwarf the most recent pull. Those unfamiliar with the bussiness side of rockets don’t quite understand that simply developing a rocket is not the finish line of Capex
@Cosmic_Andrew1 What do you mean they can’t afford firefly? They absolutely can, it’s just potentially ill advised to absorb a company with a gaap loss of ~$100m last quarter.
@fikocian what do you think the ratio of satellite builders to customers is at this point? Pretty much every major operator not only wants to build in house, but also sell their manufacturing capability on top of it all. Aside from the us dod, who are the customers?
@itsmoislam@payloadspace@IanCinnamon@Apex_Satellites It’s 2026 and the brilliant idea is building lots of satellites with a standard bus/components. Absolutely genius, they should have patented the process to protect their ip. I look forward to them selling at a loss to win modest contracts and recouping with equity sales.
@TMFAssociates This company highlights how you can just walk into YC and slam together a few buzzwords and get a billion dollar valuation. Of all the dead on arrival companies I’ve seen this is the most doa.
@CannyFuturist The valuation is aggressive, but I really like 🚀 Lab as a company. They’ve done a great job managing hype while building for a realistic future.
@CannyFuturist Sort of on topic. I expect the big prime defense contractors will eventually be swallowed by vc backed start ups with cool names and eccentric founder/ceos to then simply go on doing what they’ve always don’t just trade at a higher multiple.
