Writing a literacy narrative currently; however, tell me why did I just realize that my first dive into writing and poetry began with a splurge of my feelings for a past unrequited love. Hahaha. I guess it starts somewhere, but this is an eye opening moment. #literacymatters

one story featuring a boy and the other a monkey. I’m still early in reading it, but this book is interesting in how it captures common things that happen to Asian Americans. #buslverse

I don’t if any of y’all are reading American Born Chinese, but it is quite interesting & funny. I love how the book has like little tales that go back and forth between the life of a Chinese American and then folk tales. Also, the fact that they kinda relate to each other deal

to include in a course, but it has definitely helped me in understanding our texts in various perspectives. #buslverse

Like I actually learned a lot about literature in this class than I thought I would! I appreciate Dr. Busl putting a social media platform in the course bc it creates a new way to discuss the things we learn, and we can always look back on it. Twitter might not be a formal method

Doing a reflection on the course has helped me kinda review myself on what I actually learned, and I like this. It helps to reflect on what I’ve learned because it reviews over the whole class period. In most classes, we don’t get this opportunity to just reflect on everything :)

Seeing words come to life through acting is quite entertaining. I have no idea why, but some parts of the movie are just hilarious . (Especially when the sudden music is loud) Is it just me? #buslverse

After reading Discourse on Colonialism, I realize that Césaire’s words and way of discussing his thoughts on colonialism are eye-opening. Like, I knew something was wrong with colonialism, but Césaire brings it to a whole other level with his way of words. 🤯 #buslverse

The scene of Caliban & Prospero cursing each other is still funny with how they insult/roast each other with compassions to animals. 😅 #buslverse

In Césaire’s version, Caliban’s character can be more easily understood (to me personally) because of the language. Miller translated it to where it is more modern, but still true to the character’s personality.

Reading A Tempest by Aimé Césaire, it was quite enlightening to see the adaptation of how it represents the era of colonialism. It’s kinda crazy how Prospero represents the colonizers that could be both evil and good (in a way). Caliban’s last words about how Prospero taught him

Also, Césaire’s version of this story definitely has a larger emphasis and focus on Caliban & Ariel’s purposes with Prospero than Shakespeare’s. The image of slaves’ different perspectives of their master is interesting. Ariel trusts in Prospero’s words of promising freedom, and

Caliban firmly rejects the idea that Prospero has any value as a man of his word. Caliban is engraved with the fact that Prospero stole his island, and only sees him in a negative way.
