Hot off the presses! Really grateful to @JournalofGME for publishing our approach to #personalstatement preparation—and making it #openaccess. Shout out to my co-authors Danielle Jones & @ricapitt on this labor of love that we hope will help many.✍🏽👩🏽💻

The Feynman Razor
Complexity and jargon are used to mask a lack of deep understanding.
If you can’t explain it to a 5-year-old, you don’t really understand it.
If someone uses a lot of complexity and jargon to explain something, they probably don’t understand it.

Spent the morning sitting at a table in the lobby next to this sign. I know a lot of people feel too tired for this. But we made a difference today.
I KNOW we did.
Thank you @GradyHealth and also our residents for helping make this idea a reality!👊🏽🥲🏥❤️

Saw a pt last night who had bilateral wrist pain after a fall 24 hours ago.
XRs looked negative to me. He had good ROM. So I discharged him.
Reads came back this AM with very small fractures in *bilateral* distal radii. Needed to have removable splints put on.
No amount of vaccine education to overcome medical mistrust will address the structural bias in place when there are no vaccine sites in minority communities.

Lessons you taught me:
Take a chance.
Ask for help.
Be yourself.
Stay ready.
And hustle.
Whew.
Study the books. Read the journals. But never, ever forget where the most meaningful wisdom is. It’s with the patient, man.
All day and all night, baby.
Yeah.
#HumanismAlways
Sending love to every Black woman who went to work yesterday, cooked a meal, cared for others, or did anything at all while aching or even breaking. Attempts to deny Breonna Taylor’s humanity and rights are attempts to deny our own. Yet we still show up. Who will show up for us?
The outrage surrounding #MedBikini is justified. At the ROOT of this, is the idea that all surgeons should ‘conform’ to a predetermined definition of surgeon. This puts women, BIPOC, religious & gender/sexual minorities at significant disadvantage in Academia
If you're interviewing this fall, ask the residents: What is your relationship with your program coordinator like? How long was your orientation and did you get paid for it? Tell me about a time where you were sick or had an emergency and how you got the support you needed.
When I was a Med 1, a well meaning URM Peds resident said, re: my interest in Cardiology, “It saddens me when URMs don’t realize that primary care is where they are needed.” I sighed ...
Thanks for this great thread, @SBowersMD!
Protests save lives y’all.
This multi-racial uprising IS the reason change is happening. It is what makes this moment different than those that came before.
We, as a nation, owe these protestors an enormous debt of gratitude. And we owe them the changes they are calling for.
Incredible anti-racism resource list. Title of this project coined by Dr. Roxane Gay (@rgay). Time to get to work, especially if you hold positions of power and privilege (I.e. my education and career afford me privilege). Start here. https://t.co/EOk9eAnTH8
