Sunday’s UPSL home match against FUT Ohio was deadlocked at 0–0 for 87 minutes—then two Guardians produced the breakthrough. 🔥

Zeddicus LeRoy won possession from FUT Ohio, then delivered a brilliant, defense-splitting pass through four FUT players perfectly into the path of Jake Calderbank.

Jake did the rest.

First-touch brilliance. Jake met the pass in stride and, without hesitation, drove a left-footed strike across goal and into the far corner. GOAL. ⚽🔥

87th minute. Guardians 1–0.

⚔️ BEWARE THE GRIEVOUS WOLVES ⚔️

Not everyone who speaks of God is leading people to God.

Scripture repeatedly warns that men would enter among believers seeking money, influence, power, control, and followers for themselves—using religion while drawing people away from a simple devotion and obedience to Jesus Christ.

Paul warned:

“For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.” — Acts 20:29 KJV

And the very next verse tells us what these men desire:

“Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” — Acts 20:30 KJV

Notice the direction.

They do not simply want people following Christ.

They want to “draw away disciples after them.”

Peter warned of those who would exploit believers:

“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you...” — 2 Peter 2:3 KJV

Scripture even warns of teachers motivated by “filthy lucre”:

“Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.” — Titus 1:11 KJV

This is why Christians must know the Scriptures for themselves.

A preacher's charisma is not the standard.
A church's size is not the standard.
Money is not the standard.
Tradition is not the standard.
Influence is not the standard.
Religious titles are not the standard.

Jesus Christ and His Word are the standard.

True shepherds point the sheep toward Christ. False shepherds gradually make themselves indispensable. They can turn faith into merchandise, service into bondage, giving into manipulation, and Christian fellowship into a system of human control.

Peter commanded shepherds to lead differently:

“Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.” — 1 Peter 5:3 KJV

Jesus said simply:

“Follow me.” — Matthew 4:19 KJV

Not follow a personality.
Not follow an institution at any cost.
Not follow whoever possesses the greatest platform.

FOLLOW CHRIST.

Test what you are taught against Scripture. Know the Word. Watch the fruit. Beware covetousness. Beware those who desire dominion over God's people. And never allow a man standing between you and Christ to convince you that following him is the same thing as following Jesus.

SEARCH ME, O GOD.

It is easy to examine everyone else.

To see another man’s failures.
To question another man’s motives.
To recognize false teaching.
To point out hypocrisy, greed, corruption, and sin.

But Scripture demands something harder:

Look inward first.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

That is a dangerous prayer for a man who truly means it.

Lord, expose what I cannot see in myself.

Show me where my motives are wrong.
Show me where ego has replaced humility.
Show me where tradition has replaced truth.
Show me where I am teaching something Your Word does not teach.
Show me where I want followers instead of pointing men toward Christ.
Show me where money, influence, recognition, or control have entered my heart.

Before I call another man a wolf—

Lord, make certain I am not becoming one.

Before I teach—

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine…” — 1 Timothy 4:16 KJV

Before I lead—

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith…” — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV

Before I judge another man's motives—

“…the LORD weigheth the spirits.” — Proverbs 16:2 KJV

And before I ever desire men to follow me, remind me:

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” — John 3:30 KJV

A faithful Christian should not fear having his beliefs, motives, traditions, and actions tested against Scripture.

He should want them tested.

Because the goal isn't to prove that I am right.

The goal is to make certain that I am following Christ.

UPSL Fall 2026 | Match 1

Columbus Crew Academy 3 – 0 Southern Indiana Guardians FC

Our first match of the UPSL Fall 2026 season took the Guardians on the road to Columbus for an opportunity to test ourselves against a talented Columbus Crew Academy side.

The final result was 3–0, but the score alone does not tell the complete story of our first outing.

A STRONG START

For roughly the first 30 minutes, the Guardians played well.

We competed, stayed organized, moved the ball with purpose, and created several quality opportunities to open the scoring ourselves. There were stretches where we demonstrated exactly what this group is capable of becoming.

The difference came as the match progressed.

We were unable to maintain the same level of quality, concentration, organization, and execution that we showed early in the game. Against a quality opponent, those drops in standard matter.

On three occasions, we were caught out—and Columbus capitalized.

That is part of competing at this level. Good teams punish mistakes.

THE LESSON

There is plenty from this match that we can build upon.

The first 30 minutes showed that we can compete.

The remainder of the match showed us that competing for 30 minutes isn't enough.

The next step is learning to maintain that standard for the entire match—when legs become tired, when pressure increases, when the game changes, and when decisions have to be made quickly.

Quality has to become consistency.

We need to become better at recognizing dangerous moments, maintaining our defensive shape, communicating, managing transitions, and continuing to make intelligent decisions as the match progresses.

Those are things that come through training, repetition, experience, accountability, and time together.

A GOOD FIRST OUTING

We aren't satisfied with losing, and we never will be.

But development requires an honest assessment of both the good and the bad.

For our first outing together, there were encouraging signs.

We created opportunities.
We had periods of quality possession.
We competed against a strong opponent.
We discovered areas that need immediate improvement.

Most importantly, we learned.

Growth requires resistance. Discipline requires sacrifice. Strength requires struggle. You cannot become the man you were created to be while constantly choosing the path that demands the least from you.

The athlete who avoids exhaustion never discovers his limits.
The warrior who avoids hardship never becomes battle-tested.
The man who always chooses comfort eventually becomes controlled by it.

Scripture reminds us:

“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” — 2 Timothy 2:3 KJV

Hardship is not always something to escape. Sometimes it is exactly where endurance, character, discipline, and faith are developed.

⚔️ THE WAY TO LIFE WAS NEVER PROMISED TO BE THE EASY WAY.

Jesus did not say to drift toward the gate. He said:

“Strive to enter in at the strait gate.” — Luke 13:24

The wide road is easy to find. It asks little. It is crowded with people moving in the same direction. There is comfort in following the multitude—but Scripture warns where that road ends.

The way to life is different.

It requires you to seek when others are satisfied.
To strive when others choose ease.
To obey when compromise would be easier.
To continue when the path becomes difficult.
Jesus warned that many would eventually seek to enter and would not be able. There is urgency in His words. This is not something to casually consider someday.
The world says, “Follow the crowd.”
Christ says, “Strive to enter in.”
Do not choose a road because it is wide.
Do not choose it because it is popular.
Do not choose it because everyone around you is walking it.

Seek the truth. Follow Christ. Enter through the strait gate.

“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” — Matthew 7:14 KJV
