Last night delivered an extraordinary World Cup semifinal. Argentina edged past England 2–1, powered by yet another Lionel Messi masterclass. But amid the scenes of jubilation, TV cameras briefly found these two fans in the crowd. Here is an interesting story. Thread 1/26
This Indian army officer who had served for two decades in the army and had retired to begin working with UN peacekeeping missions, was the first UN-associated international casualty from Gaza in May 2024. Natl media never mentions him anymore and PM got a medal from his killers.
In a country suffering from so many profound ills, the focus of the BJP is directed away from fixing those, to finding things that are doing relatively better, and looking for ways to destroy them. India 10 years from now under these cretins is a terrifying prospect.
There was a time the IITs were famous for scientific engineering and high-level research. How low they have fallen today. IIT Mandi, IIT Kanpur, and University of Virginia just concluded a special session on reincarnation and astrology. Absolute shame!!! https://t.co/Txvk9Vw9hR
Insane to think that Tamil Nadu with a hung assembly, all kinds of back and forth, side-switching, new alliances and uncertainty already has a CM sworn in, whereas Kerala where one front has a clear, thumping majority has no fkng clue who the CM is going to be.
One small tentative (and overly optimistic) thought about the TN result. In TN there is a bit of a paradox - A degree of regularly increasing welfare delivery exists and is expected as a minimum from any govt.
The DMK has done well on this front, and at the same time (1/X)
@TheAtlantic@Yair_Rosenberg Listen, you have to make the propaganda a LITTLE bit more believable. This is absolutely insane. It's like saying Hitler was radicalised by Stalingrad. I expect that even the dumbest, most propagandised American liberal is going to be skeptical when they read this.

The excellent @UnamPillai 's new Archival & Research Project opens with the chenda -- the temple drums of Kerala, that fuses thunder and heartbeat into one. For me, this sound is the soundtrack of my earliest memories, of a time when rhythm was ritual, and music. Watch. Listen: https://t.co/5cCkwVMqFq
https://t.co/9FZoJeT1Cs , one of the great journalists from Kerala, passes away.
Wrote this about his remarkable memoir Ghoshayathra a few years ago. https://t.co/XiK1yNOPGJ
Apparently, we’re supposed to worry more about the military build-up of a country that hasn’t been to war since 1979, rather than worry about the humongous military-industrial complex of a country that’s currently committing war crimes.
You can’t make this stuff up.
