The war has me thinking about esports in a different way.

When there’s real conflict in the world, everything gets harder, travel, planning, sponsorship budgets, brand risk. It forces you to look at what’s actually stable in this ecosystem.

EWC is getting bigger and more central to the calendar. Payments to teams keep getting tighter, even though teams carry the year round costs, players, staff, facilities, travel, community.

One thing I worry about is dependence. When a single source of capital becomes the centre of gravity, everyone starts leaning on it, publishers, teams, players, streamers. That changes incentives, and it can crowd out other ways of building the ecosystem.

So here’s my question. Is this kind of funding helping esports grow, or quietly doing long term damage to the fundamentals that make it sustainable?
