Punjab police SHO, Gurinderjit Singh Nagra demanded $400,000 from a family in Los Angeles, say U.S. authorities
After FBI Statement: Punjab Police action:-
Punjab Police has shifted Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, SHO of Tanda Police Station, to Police Lines, Hoshiarpur, after reports linked him to an alleged FBI "Operation Hardball" extortion probe. A fact-finding inquiry has been ordered by the DIG, Jalandhar Range, to be conducted by the SP (Investigation), Jalandhar Rural. Further action will depend on the inquiry's findings.
There has been no justice for survivors of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres or the 2002 anti-Muslim carnage in Gujarat. In societies emerging from mass violence, court verdicts alone cannot provide healing. Recognition matters. Public memory matters. Art matters.
US prosecutors charged alleged Indian gang members with directing the 2023 assassination of a prominent Sikh activist in Vancouver, a killing which prompted a diplomatic crisis between India and Canada.
One of the groups allegedly was led by Lawrence Bishnoi, who US officials said was able to oversee a multimillion-dollar drug trafficking and extortion business in North America from a prison cell in India. https://t.co/d0tZ9ACHG3

BREAKING | The U.S. have charged Hindu & Indian Nationalist gangster Lawrence Bishnoi & his lieutenant Goldy Brar with conducting the 2023 assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a killing that Canadian & American authorities have linked to agents of the Indian government.
The indictment alleges Bishnoi used contraband phones inside an Indian prison to personally direct political assassinations, murders, kidnappings and extortion worldwide. Prosecutors say his organization targeted prominent religious, social and political leaders to terrorize and extort Sikh diaspora communities.
Separately, British and Canadian intelligence reportedly intercepted communications implicating senior Indian officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, in Nijjar’s assassination.
Thirty seven defendants were charged across three indictments. Twenty four people were arrested across the U.S., Canada and Europe, while ten remain fugitives. The charges remain allegations, and India has denied involvement.

Can you please enlighten us on why 127 cuts were recommended for the film Panjab '95?
The same film, now renamed ‘Satluj’, has been taken down from an OTT platform in less than two days. The CBFC has no jurisdiction over OTT platforms or international releases.
Panjab '95 tells the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a man who exposed documented human rights abuses and paid for it with his life. If a film based on documented facts cannot be seen by Indian audiences, then the public deserves to know why.
This sends a very direct message to filmmakers and production companies: if you're paying homage to a great personality from a minority community, you'll have to face the CBFC.
Journalists should be asking the people running this censor board some hard questions. Why are some politically insensitive films able to pass with ease while others spend years in limbo?
A red carpet for Kashmir Files, Bengal Files, and Kerala Story. Roses for Dhurandar 1 & 2, a fictional documentary/explainer for the unthinkable and the unexplainable.
How does it feel to feast on four years of a director's career?
In Nehru's India, this would have been litigated in court. If filmmakers cannot tell the stories of people who stood up for justice without years of obstruction, what kind of cinema are we encouraging them to make?
Jaswant Singh Khalra Abducted again,
This time by the CBFC
Indians live like cockroaches and die like cockroaches. They vote for bottom of the barrel cockroaches as rulers, who rightly treat them as cockroaches. As an Indian can invariably expect, the police car passed by and offered no help.
Irrespective of the crime, no citizen is to be subjected to public humiliation rituals like this one.
There are courts and procedures put in place to try and provide justice to whoever seeks it.

Absolutely appalling.
No one should face violence on our streets. The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. I will not tolerate this - he will face the full force of the law.
My thoughts are with those who are injured and I thank the police and the emergency services for their response.

On the limits — intellectually and otherwise — of professional historians engaging with conspiracy theorists.
The subject is Shakespeare, but there are some applicable points to dealing with Hindutva fantasies about the Indian past.

Hearing about Sikh harassment.
A murderer does not define a community.
Sikhs have served Britain with distinction, created jobs and always contributed.
We’re lucky to have them.
