In response to why my band is calling on Israel to halt the ongoing hostilities, it is important to clarify that this is not about justifying the horrific attack that sparked the recent escalation. The tragedy of any civilian loss is deeply condemnable. Our plea for Israel to cease its actions stems from a humanitarian perspective and a call for accountability to international laws designed to protect civilians.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is complex and deeply rooted in a history of territorial disputes and occupation. Since 1967, Israel has occupied Palestinian territories such as the West Bank and Gaza, and its policies, including settlement expansions and land seizures, have systematically dispossessed and marginalized Palestinians. These actions violate international laws, including United Nations resolutions, which classify these settlements as illegal and recognize the rights of Palestinians to self-determination.

The disproportionate response that we are witnessing now—massive airstrikes in densely populated areas—results in high civilian casualties and further fuels the cycle of violence. While Israel has a right to defend itself, its actions must comply with international law, including the principles of proportionality and distinction between military targets and civilians.

Our call for a cessation of hostilities is rooted in the need to protect innocent lives and to encourage dialogue instead of escalation. History shows that militaristic responses only perpetuate the conflict and deepen humanitarian crises. We believe that acknowledging the long-standing oppression faced by Palestinians does not justify any form of terrorism, but it does highlight the urgent need for a solution that addresses these historical grievances and ends the cycle of violence.

By speaking out, we aim to raise awareness and advocate for peace, understanding that genuine solutions require confronting uncomfortable truths and prioritizing human rights for all involved.
