Igbo presidency; Many people talk like the Igbos have never been seated at the apex of power before.
Nnamdi Azikiwe (RIP) was from the South-East, hails from Anambra and was the first President of Nigeria; Emphasis on first (to lead the country). Another Igbo man has also been Head of State (General Johnson). Igbo(s) have also been VP.
Some tribes have never occupied the President or VP seats since Nigeria gained independence, but still, Nigerians in general vote massively during elections. If everyone wanted to their person to be president or VP before they participate, there will be a big problem in this country.
Focus on competence rather than region or ethinicity, your own person being in power doesn't automatically do you and Nigerians any favour if they aren't competent to begin with.
Nigeria is a oil producing country that has never had electricity โ Kemi Badenoch
Leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has criticised Nigeriaโs governance record, describing the countryโs long-standing electricity challenges as a consequence of poor public policy.
Speaking on how her upbringing shaped her political beliefs, Badenoch said Nigeriaโs vast natural resources had not translated into prosperity for its citizens.
โNigeria is an oil-producing country that has never had electricity,โ she said. โIt is very easy to have resources under the ground, but stยฅpid public policy means that you canโt use them.โ
The British politician drew parallels between policies she opposes in the United Kingdom and the approach of past Nigerian military governments.
โAnd I see quite a lot of what Ed Miliband is doing as being very much like what the Nigerian military dictatorships were doing in the 1980s and 1990s,โ she stated.
According to Badenoch, excessive government control and wealth redistribution policies often lead to economic decline.
โThe governmentโs going to take control. We know whatโs best. Weโre going to redistribute. These are stยฅpid ideas that eventually just bankrupt the country,โ she said.
Reflecting on her childhood in Nigeria, Badenoch said her experiences in a developing country continue to influence her views on governance and economic management.
โFundamentally, my views about how we should run our country come from growing up in a place that was very poor. You grow up in a third-world country and you look at why it is termed โthird world,โ and I donโt want that to happen here,โ she added.
Just seeing the news that the Nigerian police has rescued the sister of the former Minister of Power and the abducted twins in Oyo; But the same police is yet to rescue more than 40 persons that have been in captivity for weeks and have made nationwide news.
This is Nigeria.
