Working with the unfinished business is an excavation. When you clear an emotion, the next layer of emotion makes itself known. Some layers require more time and distance. Eventually, it is possible to clear all the layers on a particular memory, to come to the other side.

Anxiety and depression can often be the buildup of unfinished business in the nervous system. What feelings from moments in the past could not be fully felt? What actions could not be fully taken? Words not fully spoken?

Completing the unfinished business in your nervous system (and the unfinished business of your ancestors) has direct benefits for your descendants (and for so many others in your life).
Hanging out with that vision and the feelings for as long as one needs, but not getting stuck there. Eventually, coming back to look at what did happen, with fresh eyes, and feeling what comes up in the body, is another layer of unfinished business.
Sometimes the unfinished business is the feeling of #wishing that things from the past were different. For some folks, taking the time to visualize the wished-for alt reality a few times, and fully feeling the feelings that come up, can help to shift that deep feeling of longing.

Sometimes the unfinished business is reenvisioning speaking up about needs to a loving parent. Sometimes the unfinished business is finding loving adults in the present. And always, if it hasn't happened yet, it entails learning to speak up and voice needs in the present.
My friend cancelled our dinner. I asked her if it was cause of her mental health. She said “yes I don’t want to cry over dinner”. I said “don’t come and rest if you need to but don’t not come cause you’re scared of being vulnerable”. She changed her mind and is going to come.
@Learnaboutgrief Is that also what you've experienced? You said something in one of your posts about joy and grief existing side by side, I think. I loved that, to be able to carry both, side by side. It can take time to get there, in my experience of grief.
