judging a game-model / idea and the work of a staff for me is predicated on two simple variables:

- is the model coherent in risk/reward terms across all phases/moments/aspects (training,fitness)?

- does the model platform players more or less?

this is my measuring stick.

if you have more players ahead than below the ball in progression AND increase the distances, you end up with ETH's United, Spalletti's Juve, and the likes.

the counterpress becomes impossible, usually lines flatten and become "groups" of progression and reception..

this is why it is crucial to reframe our idea of what analysis is.

opposition and league analysis are needed, but extracting the underlying trends + the core principles that govern their emergence is the most valuable analysis.

if you want to your progressive actions to be medium to longer distances (to use your runners), you have to have more players below the ball than ahead of it.

examples are teams like Inzaghi's Inter, current PSG, treble Madrid, Klopp's Liverpool.

for me, the absence of elite strategic conception of the game's trends is the most unforgivable at the biggest clubs.

i would rather a coaching skill deficiency (that can be compensated by with staff) than strategic inefficiency.
