If you’re tired of fighting the same pattern, stop fighting the behavior. Find the memory your brain uses to run that prediction*. Challenge it.
*predictions are memories your brain uses in the moment to decide how to respond
@Mr_Steve_Pare Parents are people.
As a kid, they are everything, and what they do or don’t do affects what you think of yourself.
As an adult, you hopefully realize, they did the best they could and you’re now responsible for what you do.
Stop blaming others for your outcomes
You
• think your thoughts
• put your thoughts into action
• are responsible for the outcome
If you blame the outcome on someone else, change your perspective, update your thoughts, and the outcome will change.
@THEROSSHARKNESS Mental performance systems are only as good as the person running them. It’s the crap under the system that pulls the rug out at some point in the journey.
Your life doesn’t stop because you made a mistake. Do something physical, so you have to put all your attention on it, and you’ll stop worrying about “the mistake.”
The reason you hold yourself back:
• You watched someone else do it and thought it’s what you do
• You took on someone else’s belief about themself
• You decided it was the best way to handle a situation years ago and are still doing it
• You were told to believe it about you
@Tim_Denning College has turned into babysitting for adults who never learned life skills and would never leave their parent’s house if they weren’t paid to go.
@JamesClear Get to the core - the negative mindset - and there won’t be a need to do a shift.
Ask the question: Who said I have to look at this negatively?
Challenge that answer.
Most people never decide what they want.
They wallow through life, pinging from one thing to the next (been there, got the tshirt).
•Challenge your thinking
•Tear it apart
•Find what you truly believe & want in life
•Decide to make it happen
Decision pushes doubt away.
The reason you are where you are is because you took action or made excuses. You’re the only one cares about your excuses. Decide to take action or continue to wallow in your excuses.
Compromise is necessary in relationships.
As long as your values and principles match, compromise on the rest is a no brainer.
Work together to find a solution. Adjust what you’re willing to do for things that aren’t critical to the foundation.
No one is right every time.
If someone disagrees with your point of view it’s only their opinion.
It doesn’t mean anything about you. It doesn’t make you good or bad.
It’s their opinion.
Make sure your facts are straight.
Take it as feedback (noted).
Keep plugging along.
There are only so many days in a life to share your learnings.
From being afraid to share to an over sharer has taken some time and a lot of trial and error.
Despite the rough patches, I wouldn’t change a thing because it made me who I am.
When I was young, I learned a lot. I learned I needed to keep my mouth shut, my eyes down, and my actions muted.
As an adult I learned how to share my thoughts, look people in the eye, enjoy their company, and have fun in my life.
It’s been a long journey and worth the trek!
Fear is an internal battle. Change how you think about the task in front of you and the fear disappears.
1-thought says - I can’t do it
2-challenge it- this is what I’ve done before, I can do this
3-reinforce the new information
4-thought updated
5-you take action
