The Idea that a woman can’t or shouldn’t write about sex is ridiculous. If this was an album just full of horny bangers, i’d still likely enjoy it.
But what we got was a deep introspection of Carpenter’s psyche, and her own experiences as a young woman exploring relationships.
See I’d argue this album IS about sex somewhat, but not in the way people are claiming. It’s rather a delve into Carpenter’s personal issues with emotional intimacy, relationships and sex, as well as addressing a wider issue within heterosexual relationships by using an anecdote.
sabrina released a beautiful album about her OWN story, falling in love with stupid men with lack of emotional intelligence who only play with her feelings but yet she still goes back and tries it again because that’s just how life is and she’s doomed to do it until the “right one” comes.
there are songs about hating men and their inconsistencies like manchild and tears.
songs about delusion not seeing clear red flags like my man on willpower
trying to change the narrative by not falling for it “this time” in sugar talking
going back to this person, being so close to finishing the relationship but that person pulling you back with sweet nothings and sex in “we almost broke up again”
giving up for a second and thinking there is no one for you in “nobody’s son”
remembering that person and trying to forgive them but still hoping the worst for them in never getting laid
trying it again with someone you knew before and thought maybe that was the one in when did you get hot
still trying it, trying ur best to not call all of ur past tries and trying to remain positive through alcoholism in go go juice
probably a one night stand will do it to amend the pain in house tour
and then finally where we finally stop believing those sweet nothings and false promises we say goodbye
even the album cover summarizes this with sabrina trying to remain in control while the man has her in her grip. it might not be the radical feminist album that everyone wants it to be but it still tells a story that it’s very personal to sabrina.
IT’S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL ALBUM with a beautiful narration yet people lack so much critical thinking that all they get is that it’s “male centered”.
People are dumbing it down to a “It’s just about sex and men”, when really it’s a narrative of attachment, relationships and a struggle to be able to differentiate between a healthy relationship and one based on sexual chemistry. The woman in her 20s experience essentially.
“What about female abusers? They exist.” Yes, they do exist. But you accuse survivors of being abusive because they accused your fave and defend real abusive women like Melanie Martinez all the time. So, excuse me for not falling for your bullshit.
No Other Land depicts the horrifying violence Palestinians in the West Bank endure under apartheid.
Yesterday, its co-director Hamdan Ballal was beaten in his home by settlers before being detained by Israeli forces.
People applauded Hamdan. Now they are silent. Free Hamdan.
