Columbia U making more strange choices. 1. Not disclosing that this MAHA-promoting person is also a CU Trustee. 2. Promoting a trustee being sued for fraud (hiding FDA concerns). #QuoVadisColumbia — Columbia should learn some media ethics from the spectacular @ColumbiaSpec
Obesity is a serious public health issue nationwide, affecting nearly 20% of children in the U.S. To effectively address this crisis, @columbiaps' Dr. Shoshana Shendelman stresses the importance of collaboration between the pharmaceutical industry and community organizations like Make America Healthy Again (MAHA).

@ColumbiaMed@ColumbiaPS 4. Why does Dr. Shendelman not disclose in her bio that she serves as Trustee rn? Why doesn’t she clarify that she DOES NOT speak for the Board of Trustees @Columbia?
(3/n)
@ColumbiaMed@ColumbiaPS 3. @Columbia, why do you not disclose that Dr. Shendelman also serves currently on CU’s Board of Trustees?? That matters bc the Trustees are negotiating w the Trump government of which RFK Jr and his MAHA project is a part.
(2/n)
@ColumbiaMed@ColumbiaPS Whoa @Columbia, what are you doing??
1. You have world class faculty & researchers working on obesity. Why are you not promoting their work??
2. You do know that RFK Jr’s MAHA is part of MAGA, yes?

And here is Columbia University acting president Claire Shipman (left) at the ‘Defunded Science Fair’ today, in front of a board that details, among other things, the “current assault on federal funding for science” and three aspects of such “assaults since Trump took office”.
Despite capitulating to several of the Trump administration’s demands to Columbia, including one linked to academic freedom, the university administration currently led by Shipman has not managed to get the $400 million in revoked federal grant funding restored. The university has meanwhile announced notices of non-renewal or termination for nearly 180 individuals who were working based on those grants.

Columbia’s board of trustees has been repeatedly accused by large numbers of students, staff and faculty of functioning in a non-transparent and isolated manner, without seeking inputs from the university community.
Here is a flyer that protesting members of the faculty are handing out to visiting alums during Alumni Weekend at Columbia.
NEW: During Columbia University’s Alumni Weekend celebrations, members of Columbia’s faculty and staff surprise the university administration by hanging 35-feet banners that read “Hands off our students”, “Defend Science” and “We will fight back” at the end of acting president Claire Shipman’s address to alumni.
Shipman notices the banners on her way out from the address. Within 15 minutes, the university administration takes down the banners and campus security officials confiscate them right after.
Here are the facts:
While Israel claims that they “sent” 92,000 aid trucks to Gaza since October 7, what should have entered Gaza to meet the needs of the 2 million people there since that date are more than 357,000 trucks.
I will tell you why!
Between 500-600 trucks used to enter Gaza daily before October 7.
596 days x600 trucks= 357,600 trucks.
But unfortunately that is not even the correct number.
After October 7, more than 90% of cattle have died/were killed and about 70% of land for crops in Gaza were destroyed or damaged by Israel.
I cannot tell how many more trucks would be needed in Gaza to make up for all this, but I think it would mean that no less than 800 trucks would be needed daily in Gaza because of that.
596 days x 800 trucks=476,800 trucks.
***Israel claims to have sent 400 trucks since March 1, 2025. This means 400 trucks out of 68,000.
***People in Gaza do not want aid. They are not beggars. They are not poor. They need an end to the siege and occupation. They know how to feed themselves.
The question is, why is no one talking about the numbers I mentioned? Where are the economists? Professional journalists?
If you want to understand how people and publications are trying to shift and pivot on Gaza…

In Omdurman, Doctors Without Borders org warns of deteriorating health conditions after recording more than 2,000 suspected cholera cases, including 500 in a SINGLE DAY.
ll of this happened due to lack of clean water and power outages alongside other factors.

South Africa's submission to UNSC in Feb. 2025 did not receive the attention it deserves. This is one of the most publicly-available comprehensive documentation of Israel's intent to commit to genocide as evidenced by its pattern of conduct and statements. 🧵 1/
Claire Shipman met with Mahmoud Khalil personally. It’s not like she didn’t know him. The trustees still did this. You cannot expect international students to attend when university leadership actively harms students. What will stop another student from being detained? Vibes?
Over 2 million people are being intentionally deprived of food, water, medicine, and baby formula.
Israel must allow aid into Gaza immediately. This genocide must end and the U.S. must stop being complicit.

Maryam Alwan (@maryamalwan), a Palestinian-American graduating student of Columbia University's Class of 2025, delivers a poignant speech at a ceremony to celebrate Arab students graduating from Columbia this year.
Watch, and read, excerpts from Alwan's graduation speech here:
"I can't help but think about our fellow graduate Mahmoud Khalil who should be holding this microphone instead of undergoing two months of political imprisonment in Louisiana."
"I can't help but think about every Palestinian senior in Gaza whose universities were all destroyed over one year ago."
"In witnessing a genocide unfold on our screens for over 500 days, we were forced to reckon with humanity’s capacity for cruelty. And we stood against it."
"We are not just graduates. We are living proof that even in a system designed to suppress us, we built something unbreakable."
