Amorim had us pressing in packs like Brighton did to Arsenal yesterday.. As a matter of fact, we pressed them in that manner in the first game of last season..
Amorim and Carrick were given two completely different jobs.
Amorim was brought in to implement a style of play - to reset habits, build structure, and change the identity of the team.
That takes time. It also costs points in the short term.
Carrick, on the other hand, is here for six months with one clear objective: get United into the Champions League. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Short-term coaching is about maximising points.
Long-term coaching is about building something sustainable.
That’s why Carrick can collect more points with the same players Amorim was rebuilding.
Amorim refused to take the easy route - sitting deep, playing safe, chasing quick fixes. He stuck to the process even when it hurt him.
Some fans look at the table.
Others look at the direction.
That’s the difference.
I keep seeing United fans say, “I don’t care how we play as long as we get the 3 points.”
That is incredibly short-sighted.
You try to use Arsenal and City as excuses to justify winning ugly.
First of all, Arsenal can grind out results because they built one of the best defensive structures in the world.
You think managers like Maresca aren’t obsessing over developing a system?
You think the peak City team that won it all didn’t have a defined playing style even when they were grinding out results?
Momentum without tactics always catches up to you.
Did we all just conveniently forget Ole’s interim win streak?
We went on a massive run based purely on vibes, and how did it end? Tactical collapse.
When I point out the slop and criticize the tactical flaws, I get branded as "negative."
In reality, demanding a sustainable system is much better for this club than blindly accepting an emotional rollercoaster, where you celebrate a sloppy win today just to get embarrassed the next week.
Aim higher. 🧠
