@one54africa@ginayashere These conversations are beautiful. I do have one small constructive criticism though as a real African. This goes for the british born africans mostly. Stop caricaturing the African accent for cheap laughs. it's not cool or respectful. African speak with energy but not like fools
@_khendrick you have to feel sorry for this lady even though she chose the situation she is in. People like Obinim are extremely toxic and extremely manipulative people who end up destroying everything in their path.
@TheDefiantGhost so this graham hancock guy.. who properly doesnt know the history of Hull is supposed to be the expert on all this stuff and all the trained archeologists are to be ignored? no one pushes back on anything he says because they are desperate to be mesmerized by fiction.
@one54africa Beautiful story but perhaps tone the ridiculing and caricaturisation of the African accent down a bit. How it is presented is not exactly flattering towards your dad or other elders who speak like that. makes them sound like buffoons.
@akinbobaoye@one54africa well i have no problem with how we sound. but it's the exaggeration for effect. how he portrays his family attending his wedding (to his white wife) late etc. it's not exactly flattering but to each his own i guess.
@ABChinonso@one54africa well i do have a sense of humour actually. but ridiculing the accents of your own people is low frequency humour. its disrespectful to the people with the accent because you wouldn't ridicule their accents to their faces.
@theemperoread@one54africa calm youself down. if you are a buffoon, enjoy it. not every african is a buffoon in a minstrel show. perfect English or american accents don't make you inherently better than africans with african accents.
@ericalova@one54africa Here's what you are missing. He contrasts his perfect English accents with the exaggerated caricatured african accent in a way that is not flattering to actual africans. He would not speak to the people he is speaking about like that
to their faces. that would be insulting
@bodeboss@one54africa Speak for yourself. we are not all buffoons. And don't get me started on talentless comedians who think exaggerating their parent's african accents is the end all be all of humour. lazy comedians who fall off as quickly as they rise.
@truehomeboy1@one54africa i did watch it. Found a lot of it unwatchable how he describes his time in nigeria. not many positives. all bufoonish caricatures. He didn't even want to speak yoruba when he was in boarding house for some reason. it's all bizarre
@damola_ade77@one54africa You shouldn't have to grow up in Yorubaland to understand whether or not how he is portraying his people is bufoonish. He thinks speaking the queens language with a perfect accent and acting english is the gold standard. it's delusional.
