In Chennai, practically all footpaths are encroached by private persons as well as government authorities like the departments of electricity, transport, metro, telecommunications, police, etc.

On several roads, there is no planned footpath

Footpaths must be cleared of encroachments. If that is not possible on a road, the difficult way out is to demarcate a footpath on the existing road and declare the remainder of the road one-way

It will be an unpopular decision but the rights of pedestrians vis-a-vis motorists must be protected

Cognizant cuts 4,000 JOBS

Remember last October when I said Infosys and Wipro were starting to crack and everyone acted like I was being dramatic?

Yeah.

Infosys revenue down.
HCL down.
Now we have Cognizant cutting 4,000 jobs while bringing in 20,000 freshers and calling it “AI transformation.”

I am watching a structural rewrite of IT service in the workforce.

The old model was more bodies equal more revenue.
The new model is fewer expensive people, more automation, and just enough junior talent to keep the machine moving.

I said last year this sector was heading for ugly.

I wasn’t kidding.
And I fully expect more layoffs in this arena.

I got my first ever iPhone only in March 2024 - an iPhone 15 Plus. Prior to that, I was on assorted Android phones for 13 years (and BlackBerry, Nokia, Siemens, Samsung Bada, Symbian, before that, since I started owning a mobile phone, in 1999). Oddly enough, I have not felt the need to upgrade or even consider an upgrade since then! This was definitely not the case with all my Android phones (assorted Samsung and OnePlus phones, mainly). Almost every year, I felt that I needed a "better" and "improved" phone. And I did upgrade almost once every two years!

With Android, much like Windows in laptops, something or other goes bad, to put it mildly, after some time. The camera feels mildly sluggish, or the OS drags occasionally. The phone heats up faster (and cools), or some apps just shut down more abruptly, often enough that I start to worry.

With the iPhone, I have not had anything major or minor enough to start considering an upgrade or an alternative! The battery life is more than good. Camera continues to be stupendously good. Everything works as it should without giving me any reason to complain. In terms of features too, I have no need to consider an upgrade! I have no idea if I'm the only one or if this is a widespread sentiment with iPhones.
