Subject: Will You Watch Haq AND/OR Will You Apologize for the 1986 Law That Stripped Muslim Women of Their Rights?

Shri Rahul Gandhiji,

You often speak about nyay, justice.
About equality for women, dignity for minorities, and rights for the poor and the marginalized.

Your public statements across the years have repeatedly emphasized:

“Women deserve equal rights and equal opportunities.”
“Every Indian especially the weakestmust receive justice.”
“Minorities must feel secure and empowered.”
“The Congress stands for protecting the vulnerable.”

These are noble words.
But Haq, a film rooted in a real injustice , asks a question you have never answered.

Why has the Congress Party never apologized for the 1986 law that weakened the rights of Muslim women passed under your late father, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi?

This law, enacted after the Shah Bano judgment, took away a Muslim woman’s right to maintenance granted by the Supreme Court. Many women’s groups, legal scholars, reformers, and Muslim women themselves described it as discriminatory and deeply regressive.

Today, almost 40 years later, the women affected by that decision are still living with the consequences.

And now comes Haq, a film that forces the country to confront that moment and its human cost.

Yet, you have not even watched the film.

Therefore, I ask you six questions the nation is quietly asking as well:
1. You often carry the Constitution in your hand, but why do you avoid acknowledging the constitutional wrong committed in 1986 ?
2. You say Congress has moved past vote-bank politics, then why have you not spoken on a film that exposes how political calculations once overshadowed justice for vulnerable women?
3. You oppose the Uniform Civil Code today, but Shah Bano Case shows clearly how opposing “One Nation, One Law” in 1986 denied Muslim women equality before law. How do you reconcile this?
4. Does the Congress truly stand for the haq; the rights ; of Muslim women?Or only for protecting patriarchal structures within the community?
5. Did the Congress, in 1986, end up enabling practices like polygamy and unequal divorce rights in the name of “minority protection”?
6. Your party demands accountability over every issue today but where is your party’s accountability toward the injustice it supported for nearly four decades against Muslim women?

Your Silence Today Has Consequences

Muslim women continue to face discrimination within personal law, in matters of divorce, maintenance, inheritance, guardianship and marital rights.
Your speeches frequently highlight injustice in society.
But what about the injustice within the community itself, which the 1986 law reinforced?

You speak of changing India.
But how can genuine change happen if your party refuses to acknowledge a historic wrong?

So I leave you with two straightforward questions:
Will you watch Haq, a film that confronts the truth your party has avoided?

AND/OR

Will you finally apologize for the 1986 law that denied Muslim women equality under the Constitution?

The nation will accept either:
Courage to face the truth, or courage to correct the past.

What is unacceptable is silence.

We, the people of India, are facing a grave and multifaceted threat, with innocent civilians being targeted in a deliberate attempt to undermine the very fabric of our society, civilization, and democratic values. Indians are under attack - an assault on innocent lives, and an affront to the very essence of our civilization, humanity, fraternity, and democracy in Bharat, perpetrated not only by external forces but also by elements within, with calculated attempts to destabilize our government, fracture our unity, and erode our democracy.

Yesterday’s arrest in Faridabad - reports say a doctor was found with a large cache of ammonium nitrate and weapons - came hours before the Delhi explosion, and investigators are already tracing links between the two incidents.

At the same time Delhi Airport’s massive disruption - widely reported as caused by alleged GPS-spoofing and affecting 800+ flights - raises the frightening possibility of coordinated technical and physical attacks designed to paralyse transport and sow panic.

Recent counter-terror operations in Gujarat - where authorities arrested operatives linked to international terror networks - add to the pattern: multiple arrests, seized materials and encrypted communications all point toward a larger, organised conspiracy that must be dismantled.

This is also a moral indictment: what good is education if it is perverted into making someone a better trained instrument of terror? Radicalisation that turns students, professionals or medical personnel into killers is a betrayal of learning, of society and of humanity.

From Pahalgam and Pulwama to the streets of Delhi, Punjab and Manipur the aim is identical - to terrorise innocent civilians, fracture our social fabric and collapse public confidence. These are attacks on our people, on civilisation and on the fraternity that binds Bharat.

There are worrying signs that some of these networks seek to exploit external support or inspire unrest to destabilise our institutions. Let investigations follow the evidence: expose any external backing, prosecute all collaborators, and harden our defences against both kinetic and cyber threats.

Above all, this is a moment for national unity, calm and resolve. Our democracy and the sovereign republic of Bharat will not be shaken by terror or sabotage. We must strengthen security, protect civil liberties, support victims, and reject the narratives these criminals want to impose. Nobody will derail India’s development agenda or our march toward a secure, developed nation.

The GenZ of Bharat stand united with the Modi government, committed to national development and the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party @BJP4India . India stands united - resilient, vigilant, and determined to preserve peace and the rule of law. Jai Hind… Jai Bharat.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election was a rude awakening for the BJP. The party that boasted “Abki Baar 400 Paar” failed to secure a single majority. Now they have begun weaponising constitutional bodies to tilt the electoral scales in their favour. The “Karte Loot, Bolte Jhooth” party failed to win on votes, so now they are trying to win by notes, by misusing money and muscle.

They have crossed the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ by conducting SIR in Bengal. If electoral accuracy were the concern, why is SIR being carried out only in Opposition-ruled states among the four heading to polls? Why was BJP-ruled Assam exempted? If the aim was to eliminate “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas” from the rolls, why only target Bengal? Bengal shares a border with Bangladesh, just like Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. But only Bengal is being singled out. Similarly, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram, which share borders with Myanmar, are exempted from SIR. Why?

Because SIR is nothing but NRC through the backdoor. Who gave the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and a certain Mir Jafar the authority to question our legitimacy as citizens on the very soil our forefathers bled for? Who authorised them to demand our parents’ birth certificates and make us prove our existence?

Do not mistake our civility for weakness. In this fight for people’s identity, constitutional rights, and survival, the Bangla-Birodhis will confront a defeat like never before. Should any harm come to our people, should a single genuine voter be unfairly struck off the rolls, the people of Bengal will march to Delhi with the cry “BJP Hatao, Odhikaar Bachao.” We will bring the zamindars to their knees and, through democratic means, consign this assault on our rights to dust.
