"This is the Greatest Moment of my Life"
Abu Dhabi 2014
Lewis Hamilton dominates the only double-points race in F1 history to claim his second world title.
He flies off the line and eventually even laps a wounded Nico Rosberg to collect his 33rd career victory, a very illusive number for some 😉
He becomes the first Mercedes-Benz Champion in over 50 years and celebrates an iconic title in style.
👑🇬🇧
I’ve always spoken about how poignant it was that Lewis spent years facing such abuse at a track like Spain — and it subsequently became one of his most successful tracks.
But when I think about how Resistent large factions of F1 & the UK media have been in terms of accepting LH when he arrived in F1, how reticent they’ve been in treating his career with the respect it deserves. All in full contrast to the white Brit’s on the grid who have always received far more sincere affection. Days like this really remind us all where the true power lies.
For Sir Lewis Hamilton to win his record 9th at Silverstone: The home of Motorsport, as the most successful British driver in history, most successful F1 driver in history & unparalleled British sportsman.
The Defiance of that. The poetic justice. The Audacity of a Prodigy to be so generational…to have the Talent to surpass all their idols. The Leadership and Longevity to keep the sport in the palm of his hand. No matter how they try to rewrite their own ending. That kind of success DEMANDS to be seen as it stands in the face of a long history of prejudice & exclusion. Lewis doesn’t just open the door…the first and only Black driver in F1 has made himself at home, alone, at the very pinnacle itself.
Destiny cannot be defeated, only deferred. Only ever delayed👑God Save This King
📻 | Bono: “Well done Lewis, P4. Tough race mate, with that damage. But yea, made it through while others were playing bumper cars. George managed to win that one.”
📻 | Lewis Hamilton: “Congratulations to the team. Congratulations to everyone.”
Lewis Hamilton was left alone after the 2023 Singapore GP, where he finished on the podium. Ferrari’s team were the first to congratulated him.
Meanwhile, watch this same Mercedes team celebrate Russell’s P3 at the Canada GP as if they won the race.
I’ll never forget this day.
