In another life I owned an international freight business and employed men to handle specialist freight on and off trucks and in and out of containers. We employed a lot of big men, but size doesn’t always correlate with strength. A lot of skinny men were very strong and had skill in lifting. Many of the best workers we had were average size, lean men. Strength doesn’t always correlate with size, but strength always correlates with sex. When you have supervised the moving of thousands of tonnes of freight by hand over decades it’s ridiculous to say anything else. Sometimes I see these stupid arguments about short men and tall women and wonder if these people have ever gone outside.

Today is international cat day!

When I adopted Jarvis, they warned me that he might be difficult—he tried to maim several staff members at the shelter—and he had only recently recovered from a nearly fatal hunger strike. He was 7 pounds and traumatized. We bonded immediately in the shelter. When I opened the carrier, he practically jumped into it, and we were off.

He thrived with me and now weighs a healthy 13 pounds. I changed his life but he changed mine just as dramatically. We keep on leveling up together. He is a prince of a cat.

I know everybody’s still laughing at the Jason Arday story and wondering how on earth anyone could believe such absolute wild madness.

Well, can I just throw one word into the conversation?

Trans.

Jason Arday is a traditional con artist.

The same people who kissed his arse and believed he’d walked on the moon while helping deliver Queen Victoria's babies are the same people who believe Bob the Builder over there is a woman if he puts a dress on and says the magic words.

These two things are related.

The fact that people can look at Arday and recognise that they’ve been conned, but somehow can’t understand that men who claim to be women can also be con artists, is something I will never quite understand.

It’s the same inability to question the story they’re being sold. They become so invested in believing the narrative that they stop looking at what is actually in front of them.

So can we please have that conversation?

And can the brain-dead people who were fooled by Arday wake up and realise that if they were capable of being fooled that easily once, maybe just maybe they should start questioning some of the other things they’ve been told to believe?

Because the Arday story really should be a wake-up call.

You were fooled.

Now ask yourself why.
