Fantastic to work with primary teachers and TAs @BournvilleSch yesterday as they have so much ambition and care. Great to focus on needs of those with #Autism based on the work of @AutismEducatio1 and @EducEndowFoundn.
So important to realise the opportunity we have in every interaction to make a difference to children's experience. Thus should make adults in schools feel more empowered.
🧠'mental health' is often linked to illness, assessments/ referrals but it also links to how happy & healthy our mind is. We can help children feel in control of that every day through teaching self-awareness, self-regulation and reflecting feelings. You can make a difference 🌱
Attention is a finite commodity.
In any lesson, the more attention consumed by distraction, the less remains available for learning.
First, minimise distraction.

So many powerful messages in here for leaders who are working to improve schools. Education outcomes of course do not have a bottom line but lessons to learn here about process of change and the role leaders play. https://t.co/rgt4hWQRzl
Just watching video of a teacher giving directions to her class. My colleagues Darryl & Hannah had this excellent advice: "The directions are good but they are followed by more talking and a restatement of directions....

Key takeaways from my talk about responding to needs of vulnerable learners @SENDShowUK today were;
1. Importance of relationships.
2. Use of scaffolding and explicit instruction.
3. Targeted support based on needs.
Thanks again @EEducationUK for the invite.
What an insightful talk from Simon Lynch @thisiseducation at @SENDShowUK this afternoon. Simon spoke about the transmissions vulnerable learners give and the responses adults can make to support these learners in mainstream schooling. It’s safe to say the session was a big hit!👏
So many amazing events here at the @SENDShowUK today, including a talk on how to support vulnerable learners in mainstream schools from our very own guest speaker, Simon Lynch @thisiseducation! 1:45pm in the Exhibitor Workshop Theatre. See you there!
Just 2 days to go to the..... @SENDShowUK! Come and find us Stand 131 to learn all about out about the transformative impact of 1:1 tuition and how we can support young people with SEND! #SEND#TesSENDShow#tuition#impact
Nearly 1/4 of teachers gave a detention on Friday. That's a huge number. What is the purpose of detention? Are the same students subjec to them repeatedly? What difference do they make? Do the same teachers often give detention? If so what does this mean? So many questions...
Last Friday, 22% of secondary teachers gave out a detention.
As a trainee, I remember the sinking feeling of realising detention just meant I now had ALL the badly behaved kids in my room😩
But who organises the detention process in most schools? And who supervises?
In my experience #teachers do talk a lot about explanation @MrZachG and they focus a lot on the content in your thread. Great summary of how to do explicit instruction well, and what it works. Thanks for sharing.
Teaching is so weird because nobody seems to want to talk about how to explain things... which seems like it'd be something we'd talk a whole lot about. There are a few things I've learned from research into clarity of explanations that I wish I'd been taught earlier 1/
Looking forward to sharing thoughts on vulnerable learners' needs next week @SENDShowUK thanks to invite from @EEducationUK. What do #edutwitter and #twittereps think are the best responses to these needs in schools?

Really powerful philosophy and well communicated as ever from @PepsMccrea. 'Upstream thinking' so hard to do in schools of course but should certainly have more focus.
We are thrilled to announce that @thisiseducation will be speaking at the @TesSENShow for Equal Education. Simon is a Trust SEND Lead and will present on how to best support vulnerable learners in mainstream settings.
