Shockingly only one country has asked to investigate Albanese who, when asked about the human rights violations of October 7th, said “even if rape did occur - so what?”

We welcome the decision of the United Kingdom to call for an urgent investigation into the conduct of UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. This follows a series of deeply concerning public statements, including remarks appearing to justify the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7 and repeated accusations against Israel that have raised serious questions about the impartiality required of a United Nations mandate holder. Accountability and neutrality are essential to maintaining confidence in international institutions. Investigating these comments under the UN Code of Conduct is therefore an important step toward restoring trust in the independence and objectivity of this mandate. UN officials must uphold the highest standards of responsibility. Statements that appear to justify terrorism or undermine the credibility of international mechanisms cannot go unexamined.
