Let IITs explore, investigate, and decide if there’s any merit.

Not sure who qualifies as ‘you people’ in your book 🙂 but I do know that welfare and science aren’t enemies. Societies need both compassion and innovation.
Research exists on many things that sound odd at first.
Bat guano is studied for fertilizers, snail slime for skincare, even frog toxins for medicine.
