Started brainstorming content ideas for 2023. Here’s what I’m doing/did:
- Look at what our competitors did and see how we can put our twist on it
- Surveyed our email subscribers to see what content they want to see
- Review what we created and think of complementary content
From there, paint a picture of how they look in their ideal state.
More confidence > Walk taller
More secure > Sleep like a baby
Belonging > Having drinks with friends
Here’s something that should get your wheels turning when writing product copy.
Ask, “How does the product make the customer feel after using it?”
- Are they more confident?
- Do they feel more secure?
- Do they feel like they belong?

A dash of creativity livens up social media captions, blog posts and email newsletters. Here are four ways to sprinkle in some fairy dust that make your reader think happy thoughts.
Make connections with comparisons using ideas circulating in the public consciousness.
Use ideas like:
- Ford tough
- German engineering
- Italian craftsmanship
It gives you a way to express your idea while seasoning the content w/brand personality.
Add seeds of curiosity in your writing to encourage the reader to read the next paragraph:
- Stay with me. This gets interesting.
- Let me explain.
- Here’s another way to think about it.
- Picture it this way.
Your intro sets the table for your article. It tells the reader they’re in the right place.
Keep it short and to the point.
Show them you know their pain.
Show them the solution is in the rest of the article.
When I write the email subject line and preview text, I like to use words like:
- surprising
- bulletproof
- little-known
- crucial
- hidden
- avoid
- don’t miss
It’s a small detail that gives open and click-through rates a bump.
