@TBHonestlizz My memory is that he was perceived (by some, at least) of being driven by Trotskyist theory. This seemed to be too specific and uncomfortable for those who wanted Labour to stay moderate and broadly based. "spot on" for readers of Marx and Engels, but less so for a majority.

@DocPhoenix I think it might be wrong to suppose that the number of subjects directly or consistently affects the reliability or value of a study. The research aims and the care taken with observation, methodology and data analysis will all need to be appropriately considered.
