@Soly_Reds @RedsInFour Yes. WAR's not determining the better player, but value to their team, which is context dependent. Sal could have more WAR on a team where he played a more valuable position (if he played it decently), but the Reds are (poorly) trying to optimize for team value, not Sal's value

@Soly_Reds @RedsInFour Wouldn't you say that Sal is "dinged" by not playing 3B in that his WAR as an average defensive 3B would be much higher than as an average defensive 1B? Reds could make the argument that Sal at 1B makes for the best overall team bit doesn't maximize his WAR

@bykevinclark Coleman may be a bust, but Beane not wanting to draft him means he still wasn't doing anything to upgrade the WR position. It's either bad evaluation of a player or bad evaluation of the state of the WR room

@davebiddle @OHallstarbilo4 Slowik was so bad. Extremely predictable. First and second down run followed by praying that Stroud could bail them out on 3rd and long. Stroud was a magician that first year, but it wasn't sustainable. Would have been malpractice to bring Slowik back, but they need to try again

@Andrew_Russell7 This was also the case with Manning, Brady, Brees, etc. I don't know that Burrow is better than Lamar or Allen (I'd probably put him very slightly behind), but that argument is the equivalent of arguing that Shaq was better than Tim Duncan because his plays looked cooler.
