The fire that engulfed an elders' home in Aguruwathota, Batagoda yesterday, claiming the lives of nine residents.
Eight others were injured and hospitalised, while 51 people were rescued from the facility.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

I visited cyclone-affected areas in Kegalle District, west of Colombo in Sri Lanka, to better understand the scale of the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Landslides, damaged roads, and disrupted access to water and electricity continue to affect daily life.
