SRP helps ‘Light Up’ Diné homes

The Salt River Project on April 5 dispatched two crews to the Navajo Nation to support the Light Up Navajo VI initiative, joining line workers from 44 utility companies across 20 states. Fourteen SRP employees worked to connect homes in remote areas of the Nation - where approximately 75 percent of all U.S. households without electricity are located - to the power grid.
Since its launch in 2019, the Light Up Navajo project has brought electricity to more than 889 homes. During this year’s effort, SRP crews navigated rugged terrain and long hours to install 149 poles, string 81,801 feet of electrical line, and dig 178 holes, ultimately bringing power to nine homes. The teams returned home on Sunday, April 20.
