Chinese hackers just spent two years raiding North America's most sensitive research vaults.
Google's Threat Intelligence Group has exposed UNC6508, a dangerous new Chinese cyber espionage actor. For over two years, this state-aligned group systematically infiltrated elite U.S. and Canadian academic, medical, and military research institutions.
Their objective was a total sweep of Western innovation. The group successfully exfiltrated critical defense data, Indo-Pacific military strategies, cyber warfare programs, and advanced AI technology. They also looted cutting-edge medical research, including new drug discoveries, public health policies, and clinical trials.
The tactics used by UNC6508 show a terrifying level of stealth. Instead of launching loud, disruptive attacks, they exploited vulnerabilities in specialized research databases. Once inside, they manipulated email compliance rules to automatically blind-copy stolen data containing specific national security keywords directly to actor-controlled accounts.
This highly targeted operation mirrors the aggressive behavior of more notorious Chinese state-backed groups like Volt Typhoon and UNC3886. While Google did not publicly name the specific victim institutions to protect their security, the targeted entities collectively command billions of dollars in research budgets. The stolen data perfectly aligns with Beijing's long-term military and technological ambitions.
For those wondering, this espionage operation has nothing to do with Google's recent June 2026 lawsuit. That legal action targets a separate, profit-driven Chinese cybercrime network that abused Gemini AI to run phishing scams against consumers. UNC6508, by contrast, is a state-funded intelligence unit strictly focused on intellectual property theft and national security disruption.

VIGINUM, the French government agency exposed a network of 13 fake news websites linked to the Chinese state-controlled media outlet CGTN (China Global Television Network). Reported on 6/4/2026.
@unpubmedia@facebook 🤣🤣🤣 you think our government give a shit?! Wait till even VPNs are leaving Canada because of our authoritarian policies in place!!
If you criticize the Chinese government from overseas, your parents can lose their pensions, your siblings can lose their jobs, and your children can be barred from universities. This is not a side effect of CCP policy. It is the policy.
Human rights organizations Safeguard Defenders and Chinese Human Rights Defenders have documented what they describe as a systematic revival of lianzu, China's ancient collective punishment system, adapted for the Xi Jinping era. When an overseas dissident speaks out, the consequences flow to everyone who shares their blood inside China.
The documented forms are specific. Parents and siblings lose jobs in state enterprises or government positions. Family businesses face sudden, relentless tax audits with no resolution. Pensions and social benefits are frozen without formal charges. Children, nieces, and nephews receive political black marks on their records that block university admission, passport applications, and the political vetting required for any stable career in China.
The cases are real and named. Dong Jianbiao, father of activist Dong Yaoqiong, who threw ink on Xi Jinping's portrait in a 2018 video, was detained after his daughter's act and died in prison under circumstances that remain unexplained. Activist He Fangmei's young children, including a newborn, were placed in psychiatric facilities or disappeared from contact after she continued speaking out. Wang Quanzhang, a lawyer arrested in the 2015 crackdown on human rights attorneys, had his child face school difficulties while he was held incommunicado for years.
In December 2023, China's own Legislative Affairs Commission quietly acknowledged that some local governments had been applying collective punishment in anti-fraud campaigns, restricting family benefits and loans of suspects' relatives, and called it unconstitutional. The rebuke was narrow. It covered those specific campaigns. It did not address the same practices applied to political dissidents, which continued without interruption.
The United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch have all raised concerns. China denies systematic collective punishment and describes these actions as lawful enforcement. The families living under these measures are not in a position to publicly disagree.
The CCP reaches through borders, through blood, and across generations to ensure that the cost of speaking is paid by everyone who loves you.

This has been a major issue in Canada. The @liberal_party government ignored all the reports from @CSIS… now that even the States has a report out, shouldn’t we do something?!
The PRC's #TransnationalRepression reaches across the globe. From diaspora communities and universities to foreign officials and international organizations, Beijing seeks to silence critics and shape narratives through intimidation, coercion, and harassment.

Up to 5,000 foreign agents on the ground in Ottawa.
Brian Isted spent two years as a military intelligence analyst.
He was briefed.
Active surveillance operations.
Every day.
Russia. Iran. North Korea. China.
All active.
CSIS told Parliament that China's foreign interference is the most sophisticated, pervasive, and persistent of any foreign power targeting Canada.
China attacks Canadian infrastructure through cyber operations regularly.
CSIS confirmed China targets Canadian elected officials directly.
CSIS warned that Chinese state operations have influenced Canadian electoral outcomes.
Here is what Carney did with that intelligence.
Signed a secret police agreement with China's Ministry of Public Security.
Let his MP Michael Ma deny Uyghur forced labour at committee without consequence.
Chased Canadian journalists out of the room when Wang Yi visited Ottawa.
Signed an EV deal with Beijing giving China 51% of the market.
The country that attacks Canada daily got a partnership.
The country that has never attacked Canada is getting tariff fights and diplomatic standoffs.
Does anyone in Ottawa think this is going to help with CUSMA?
Watch our full interview with Brian where he speaks to us about foreign interference and explains how the CAF's new recruitment policy is creating a legal liability that could cost it access to the American weapons it relies on -> https://t.co/vattmj0Z4V

The Canadian had set up
LOTS of organizations and departments just to protect the PM from accountability. Not to mention Justin Trudeau never got into trouble for all the scandals he involved.
Canada's oversight committee on national security is a fraud
The Liberal government purposely designed it to protect the Prime Minister from independent accountability.
I will prove it
In 1994 the United Kingdom created the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC)🧵
These kind of meetings happen between China & many countries, US & Canada are not the only ones. Unfortunately, the world still cannot give up the “big” market potential and neglect what the CCP has been doing to the Uyghurs & Tibetans.
While the West rings the alarm over hard power threats, the Chinese Communist Party is executing a far more insidious long game: quietly grooming the next generation of American leaders to act as its mouthpiece.
A highly concerning diplomatic gathering in Beijing reveals the terrifying reach of China's political warfare. Former U.S. Ambassador to China and Senator Max Baucus personally led a delegation of American students from the University of Montana's Baucus Institute straight into a meeting with Lu Kang, Vice Minister of the CCP Central Committee's International Liaison Department. This wasn't a benign academic field trip; the entire excursion was orchestrated and funded by the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF).
CUSEF is a documented foreign agent operating under the direct oversight of the CCP’s United Front Work Department, the exact state apparatus tasked with neutralizing foreign opposition and spreading covert Beijing influence. By footing the bill for impressionable American students to shake hands with senior party operatives, the CCP is systematically weaponizing academic exchanges. They are buying direct access to young American minds, ensuring a continuous stream of future U.S. policy voices who are pre-conditioned to rationalize and defend the regime's totalitarian ambitions from within the West's own institutions.

Here is PART 2 of our investigation into the "Dynamic Control Platform for Overseas Personnel". A test dashboard design that gives us exclusive insight into the world of Chinese surveillance of foreigners by its police service. This time we will introduce a few more elements, plus what else we found on the server and some thoughts. Let's go! 1/9
🚨 American journalist and political commentator Thomas Pauken II, who has lived in China for more than a decade, is facing a criminal charge in the US of acting as an agent for the 🇨🇳 government.
Pauken allegedly prepared confidential reports that his Chinese handler told him were being conveyed to Xi Jinping. He also took a lie detector test at the request of his Chinese contact and provided a cell phone and laptop to another individual in the US who was seeking a job in the Trump administration.
Pauken said he consistently rebuffed his handler’s requests for classified information, but told the FBI that he thought there was an 80% chance that the other individual he was helping to put his handler in contact with would provide classified information to China, despite what Pauken said were his warnings not to do so.
The individual Pauken reached out to, who is not named in public court papers, “was not hired for the exact job he wanted in the administration but currently works for a US government agency”.
Pauken was arrested by the FBI in February and has been in custody since. In March, a federal magistrate judge in Alexandria, Virginia, denied Pauken’s bid for pretrial release.
US District Judge Leonie Brinkema has set a “pre-indictment plea hearing” on May 29 for Pauken. Such a hearing usually signals a defendant’s plan to offer a guilty to some charge or charges, typically in an agreement with prosecutors.
Prosecutors told the court last month that theyd had “productive discussions” with Pauken’s counsel about a resolution of the case.
“It’s critical to understand that Mr. Pauken is not charged with spying or mishandling classified information. The government’s complaint charges that Mr. Pauken did professional work for a foreign government without first completing certain required paperwork. We look forward to responding to the government’s allegations in court.”
The FBI appears to have sought to deploy Pauken as a double agent. US law enforcement confronted Pauken about his activities when he returned to the US in Jan 2025, but did not arrest him until Feb of this year.
After confronting Pauken more than a year ago, US officials told him “to continue his plans as if nothing had changed. The FBI had determined that any sudden change in Pauken’s plans could put Pauken at risk from” 🇨🇳 Ministry of State Security. Pauken was told not to tell any Chinese officials about his meeting with the FBI.
When Pauken returned to the US from China in Feb, the FBI “simultaneously monitored” a meeting Pauken had at a Washington hotel with the individual he’d delivered the cell phone and laptop to last year. During that meeting, Pauken gave the person a SIM card and offered him a $10,000 bonus to work with Pauken’s Chinese handler, providing “one report per week” that “would influence policy and be read by Xi Jinping.”
Shortly after that meeting, Pauken was arrested. It’s unclear whether any action was taken against the other individual.
The Justice Department didn’t issue any press release about Pauken’s case. At his first court appearance in March, Burnham asked for the case to be kept sealed. It remained under wraps for about 10 days before being unsealed, although it seems to have garnered little attention.
Pauken faces one felony count of violating a federal law that makes it a crime to act on behalf of a foreign government in the US without registering with the attorney general. The criminal statute used to charge Pauken carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and is considered more serious than the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Pauken, who writes under the pseudonym Tom McGregor, is the author of a 2019 book titled “US Vs China: From Trade War To Reciprocal Deal,” which claims to provide “a neutral and balanced perspective” on the US-China trade relationship.
Pauken is also a son of GOP politician Tom Pauken, who served in the Reagan administration before chairing

This is an extraordinary document written by the research arm of China's spy agency (the powerful MSS, basically the CIA and the FBI all wrapped in one) that absolutely zero media has picked up on.
As far as I can see, I'm the first person to write about it even though it was published (in Chinese) on May 13th on https://t.co/6uFjJ6ObmL, a website of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The document contains perhaps the most authoritative description of where China thinks its relationship with the U.S. stands, and where it’s headed.
The title of the report is “The Great Global Transformation and the Path to U.S.–China Coexistence” and I provide a full translation of it in my article, the link of which is at the bottom of this post.
To summarize briefly the most important - and, perhaps, surprising - aspect of the document: China's spy agency - the one institution whose entire job is to worry about the U.S. threat - has largely stopped worrying.
That's really what transpires from the document. They use a strategic framework borrowed from Mao's "protracted war" theory and, according to this framework, America's offensive phase is finished and China weathered the storm intact.
The question is no longer "how do we survive America?" but "how do we manage America?" - and they're proposing a six-step relationship recovery program.
I'll let you read the full document as well as my analysis of it here: https://t.co/vDvWFZJlrQ

As people are quite interested in our latest report on the "foreigner tracking" system, we think they should definitely revisit our earlier report on "Hawk Eye". An online surveillance system that seems designed to go much further than just national boundaries: https://t.co/zVuAsXTTFm
EXCLUSIVE: How the track foreigners in China - We got rare access to demo system developed by the Ministry of Public Security in China for the prefecture of Zhangjiakou, to track and surveil foreigners visiting or being residents ( actually it applies to most nationals as well, but in this case it seems to be aimed at foreigners ). It is officially known as "Dynamic control platform for overseas personnel". 1/12
A California mayor just pled guilty to being a literal foreign agent of the Chinese government. She ran a CCP propaganda website disguised as local news.
NBC's angle? The real problem is that reporting on it "reignited fears of anti-Asian discrimination."
As an Asian American: accurately reporting that a foreign agent infiltrated local government is not anti-Asian. Framing it that way to suppress the story is.
Using "anti-Asian bias" as a shield to protect an actual CCP agent from scrutiny is the most anti-Asian thing I can think of. It implies that Chinese Americans are so fragile, or so suspect, that we can't handle the truth about foreign espionage in our own communities.
We can handle it. We're the ones most harmed by it.
