@DE_Gifford Just need to have them stationed near the Target on Ford Rd between Telegraph and Inkster. There are no rules there. Left turns allowed from anywhere. Any speed - slow or fast - goes.
@eevblog The ECU is probably powered up on either approach or vehicle unlock. Most aren’t powered all the time to prevent 12V system drain. Still it’s not great to not have thermal control on the fan to only spin when needed - unless the thermals are so bad that it’s always needed.
@eevblog Here’s the likely truth though: Vehicle platform life cycles are VERY long compared to infotainment/ADAS cycles. The hard points may have been frozen 10+ years ago - for a lower powered ECU with a lower thermal profile. Adding a fan can enable a higher-powered replacement ECU.
@eevblog Most OEMs do - using adhesive pads or grommets mounted brackets or stamped pillars or both. Helps with thermals, vibration, and eliminates potential sources of rattle.
@eevblog Got to bolt it to something. Most vehicle platforms have hard points specifically designed for bolting ECUs of various types and capabilities to support many trim levels / body styles. Hard points are chosen for reasons besides thermals - crash survival, power, wire lengths, etc
@DROANLY @eevblog Tesla water-cools their ADAS/Infotainment ECU. That’s pretty straightforward in a EV due to the liquid battery cooling loops that are present anyway. Not so much in an ICE car.
@eevblog There are automotive rated parts that can work fan-less under these conditions for sure (ie NXP iMX or TI TDMA), but these may not have the features or performance needed for the application. So fan. If it’s running all the time - that’s the part that’s not great.
@eevblog Solar loading on the metal body and glass is enough to heat the ambient cabin air to 60+ degrees Celsius. Add in the exhaust heat that’s present on the floor and the chassis is no longer a sink - it’s a source.
@PrideOfDetroit The 2023 banner was unveiled before the 1st playoff game at Ford Field in January 2024. Why wasn’t the 2024 added to the banner before the Commanders playoff game this year? It should have been. I was at both games - seeing the new banner really pumped up the crowed.
