For seven Fridays in a row, someone has ordered one sunflower from my own flower shop and sent it to my apartment.
I'm Kai, 29. My shop, Petal Pusher, is on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, and I live upstairs. Every order lands at 5:55pm, signed "Anonymous," paid with a gift card I can't trace.
My best friend West, who performs as Wanda Bliss, read tonight's card over my shoulder.
"The Velvet Room. Back booth. 8pm." She grinned. "That's either a stalker or the romance of your life. I'm coming. Wear the good jeans."
At 8pm, a tall guy in a navy fire department tee stopped at my table with a sunflower behind his back.
"I was hoping to be braver than this," he said. "I'm Carlos."
"You're the sunflower guy."
"Three years ago at Pride, you handed me a sunflower and said 'you don't have to hide anymore.' I was too scared to walk in the parade. I kept the stem." 😳
Then he slid an envelope across the table.
"One more thing. I'm kind of your new landlord." 😱
