@RochesterBridge The smell. I love standing in the middle and breathing it in. The muddiness of the river takes me right back to childhood and the prospect of an ice lolly on the other side. Bliss.
@LexiDiggins so sad I could not be there! Some fantastic work going on in the St Albans/Harpenden area raising our awareness of our incredible history through #Archaeology
If you haven't visited @RochesterCathedral why not? The Textus is actually IN the crypt plus loads of amazing info on Rochester's vibrant heritage. I particularly like the Early Medieval history written by Dr Alexander Thomas! @admt9999#History
Textus Roffensis is full of references to familiar places. This section talks about the maintenance of Rochester Bridge. It gives instructions on how it should be repaired and which estates will need to provide support including planks of wood.
What's it like working with a national treasure? Watch C5's 'Jay Blades: The West End Through Time' with me talking Soho history and 1854 cholera with the gorgeous @jayblades_ More in my 'Cholera the Victorian Plague'! @penswordbooks@sohosocietyw1@sohoradio@BitesSoho#History
@jayblades_@channel5_tv What a fabulous programme @jayblades_ and what fun it was to help make it. Such a pleasure to work with you - hope to do it again some time, maybe on a more general history theme! #London#soho#cholera
@Newells_en@IsaacStatue After some considerable research with maps and old census records, the building does appear to be 5 High Street, Strood, site of the Newell fishmonger’s. Look out for more from me and my work on the life of Isaac! #newellsoldboys#isaacnewellheritagegroup
@IsaacStatue@MedwaySport@Newells_en Totally understand! I've already asked if we can film it - that would also be nice for our chums in Argentina. BUT we might need someone to do the subtitles. My Spanish ain't what it once was.
Tues 20 June, 2pm, Medway Archives Centre, Strood. A talk by me (Spring Lecture Series): 'The Story of Isaac Newell-from Strood to Argentina and the Seeds of Modern Football'. New research and love for Isaac and Rosario. Book at 01634 332714 @MedwaySport@IsaacStatue@Newells_en
A sneak preview of, @JJChalmersRM , Sherrie Lockett Warwick and me in 'The Great Stink of 1858' (C5, 9pm, Thurs 16/Fri 17 Feb). Poor JJ's got cholera - thanks to Sherrie's amazing make-up skills - but I'm on hand to suggest some remedies! #cholera@penswordbooks@MissSarahWise
