🏀🔥 MASCO HEADS TO THE D2 TITLE GAME FOR A REMATCH WITH ST. MARY’S! 🔥🏀
#3 Masco survived a thriller Tuesday night, defeating #2 Pope Francis 50–48 in a classic Final Four battle that had all the drama you could ask for.
The first half was a defensive rock fight. Masco struggled to get its offense going against a tough Pope defense and managed just 10 points in the first half, a season low. Fortunately, Masco’s defense stood tall as well, keeping Pope in check and we trailed just 20–10 at halftime.
The second half was a completely different story.
Masco found its rhythm and exploded for 27 points in the third quarter while holding Pope to just 11. Cal Weidman started the run with a three, Jimmy Farrell began attacking the basket and hitting his midrange, but it was Thomas Denton who truly took control.
Denton poured in 15 points in the third quarter, dominating inside and out. He capped the surge by drilling his third three of the quarter at the buzzer, giving Masco a 37–31 lead heading into the fourth.
But Pope Francis and their 2,000-point scorer Sam Brigham would not go quietly.
The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle of clutch shots and huge defensive stops, with multiple lead changes in the final minutes.
After two Pope free throws gave them a one-point lead with one minute remaining, Jimmy Farrell delivered the moment of the game, hitting a baseline jumper with 42 seconds left to put Masco back in front.
Pope went back to Brigham, but Weidman and strong help defense forced a miss.
Masco ball. 6.7 seconds left.
Pope fouled freshman Owen Hannigan, who calmly stepped to the line and hit 1 of 2 free throws, giving Masco a two-point lead.
Pope had one last chance, but Weidman denied Brigham's on the final possession.
Game over.
⭐ Clutch Performances
Sr. Captain Jimmy Farrell - 16 points, clutch free throws and the game-winning shot. He also made huge defensive plays and handled Pope’s full-court pressure with poise.
Jr. Captain Thomas Denton - 19 points including a massive 15-point third quarter that fueled the comeback. Denton continue to show that he's one of the best players in the MIAA.
Sr. Cal Weidman - Tasked with guarding Pope’s star player Sam Brigham, he battled all night and made the game-saving defensive play at the end.
The Freshmen - Benjamin Linehan knocked down two huge fourth-quarter threes. Owen Hannigan, making his first varsity start, hit the boards, moved the ball, and calmly hit the late free throw that secured the win.
Huge contributions from multiple players including Matteo Stefanelli, Colin Doherty, John Green and Jack Arnold.
🔥 The STU - Once again, Masco’s student section proved why it’s the best in the state, bringing relentless energy and was our 6th man all night.
🏆 Next Up: The Championship
Masco now gets its rematch with #1 St. Mary’s, who defeated the Chieftains earlier this season on their home court. Many predicted this matchup all year — and now it’s here. Masco will also welcome back defensive stopper Ryan Richardson, returning from a one-game suspension.

🏀🔥 MASCO IS FINAL FOUR BOUND! 🔥🏀
It was a historic Friday night as #3 Masco defeated #6 Burlington 61–35 to advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive year.
The late venue change to Essex Tech didn’t matter. Masco’s student section showed up in force — a sea of black overflowing with energy. The STU was unbelievable and made a HUGE impact on the game from start to finish.
Masco put on a defensive clinic all night. Coaches Morales and O'Connor had this team completed prepared. After averaging 82.5 points in its first two playoff wins, Burlington was held to just 13 points in the first half and finished with their lowest scoring output of the season. The Chieftains’ defense was suffocating and relentless — a complete beatdown of a very good team. There was simply no way Masco was going to be denied on this night.
⭐ Standout performances were everywhere
Thomas Denton was dominant, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. He attacked Burlington all night and was simply too much for them to handle.
Jimmy Farrell, playing in his ninth career playoff game, controlled the game as a calm and confident floor general. He posted 17 points (9-10 FT), 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Freshman Benjamin Linehan had a breakout performance all 12 of his points in the second half. He had the play of the game when he snatched a deflected pass in midair and, in one motion, turned and buried a 17-footer at the third-quarter buzzer, sending the student section into an absolute frenzy.
Cal “Off Night” Weidman took on the challenge of guarding one of the best players in the state, 6’6” 1,000-point scorer Matty Gray, and held him to just 11 points.
Ryan Richardson was a demon defensively, playing a linebacker's relentless physicality and energy that set the tone for Masco’s suffocating defense.
Matteo Steffanelli continues to thrive in his expanded role, slashing to the basket and disrupting opponents all over the defensive end.
Freshman Owen Hannigan also made key contributions, including an offensive rebound that he kicked out to Denton for an early three that helped set the tone.
