@raulpacheco Thanks to my friends for tagging me. I would also add @GaryWKinsman with a 3rd edition of Regulation of Desire coming in Nov. He was also part of https://t.co/mLS8cxY1dw
Also tagging Christine Sismondo @sismondo
Prof Tom Hooper @YorkULAPS, a historian of the Toronto #bathhouse raids explains: “There were actually a series of raids, but they’re well known for this mass raid... in which 200 police officers raided four gay bathhouses all at once.” https://t.co/HnF34hZSsc via @nowtoronto
In honour of #Pride 2023, Queer & Now highlighted a piece of Queer Canadian history.
We spoke with @ChanelleGallant , @thomashooper & @roseyknees about the Toronto bathhouse raids, and were reminded why we will always need Pride 🏳️🌈🫶🏼

@XtraMagazine@journo_dale Is this an article by @XtraMagazine? or is it a Liberal government press release? It is getting more and more difficult to tell the difference.
Despite @PrideToronto fraud and forgery, the Trudeau government is giving them more money.
"There's been no transparency and accountability for this, so they shouldn't receive another penny of government funds"

"Until the government listens to sex workers, the historic harms of bawdy house laws will continue to be reproduced in legislation today." Read @maggie_ross95's essay.

Sex workers charged with bawdy-house offences remain excluded from accessing the expungement process, say a group of gay and lesbian historians, including @YorkULAPS Prof Tom Hooper, who study the criminalization of queer communities. https://t.co/UvMqESRgex via @YahooNews
Back in 2018 I joined gay and lesbian historians Steven Maynard, Gary Kinsman, and Patrizia Gentile in demanding changes to the expungement bill.
Our latest update:
Equity studies Prof Tom Hooper @YorkULAPS says it is a standard practice among police officers to include allegations of prostitution in arrest documents after raids targeting bawdy houses. https://t.co/3YJfrGuYzZ via @TorontoStar
@CDNSWAlliance The Liberals went out of their way to exclude sex workers, and in the process they excluded all the men arrested in the bath raids. None of them will qualify for record expungement. Sex work was part of the allegations police made in the baths. Here is an arrest record:
This change does NOTHING. By excluding sex workers, the Liberal government has excluded everyone arrested in the bath raids from qualifying for a record expungement
Without evidence, police alleged sex work during the bath raids. Here is one of the arrest records:
We're erasing criminal records for "indecency" and abortion. The LGBTQ people & women who fought the first fights deserve justice.
Because being who you are should never have been a crime.

Now it's time for Q&A. @thomashooper asks "I've been asking qs about fraud and forgery in federal grants...the review did not look at fraud and forgery." You can check https://t.co/fE0GMYtMYA "You received another grant of $1mm.....fraud and forgery have not been addressed." 31/
Pride Toronto didn't answer questions to members last night, and they aren't answering to media. This is what a cover up looks like. The current leadership has failed our communities. @PrideToronto@FedDevOntario
Pride Toronto is alleged to have forged at least one signature on a grant application and lied about a partnership with renowned Indigenous artist Kent Monkman. This is not the first time the non-profit organization has come under fire in recent history.
https://t.co/jYYPjojkLH
At the @PrideToronto Q and A with the ED last night there was no response to the new document that @thomashooper got released. So there was no actual response to this question. This is a major problem.
Every @PrideToronto members meeting is open to the public but this upcoming Q&A with Sherwin Modeste is being held behind closed doors.
The community must demand a public meeting so Pride Toronto can be held accountable for fraud, forgery, and misappropriation of federal grants.
@DufferinRider @PrideToronto@FedDevOntario Three of the board members named here have confirmed to me that 1) the signatures aren't theirs, and 2) this document was created without their knowledge or consent.
NEW🧵: @PrideToronto exploited Cree artist Kent Monkman's name on yet another federal grant.
This $1million @FedDevOntario grant was not included in Pride Toronto's apology and KPMG review earlier this year, current leadership must be held accountable for this cover up. 1/7
@NickEl82710606 @PrideToronto@FedDevOntario I have raised these concerns with both @CdnHeritage and @FedDevOntario - they have not responded to repeated questions about fraud, forgery, and misappropriation.
The federal government has a lot of explaining to do, they either missed this, or they went along with it.
