I’ve said a bit on here.
These days I’m journaling from behind the bar — about AI, bar life, and being anchored in the present.

Bard is now available in the EU 🙌. To be fair, keeping it out of the block was unrealistic imo, given that it may have put EU companies at a competitive disadvantage vis a vis rest of world. https://t.co/l7qH1wLN5I
I can understand why Bard isn't available in the EU. Google mightn't have wanted the hassel of navigating a bureaucratic nightmare. As an EU citizen though, it kind of sucks that are being left behind...

@drivetimerte opened today with exchanges between the #Tanasite & #PearceDoherty. It was emotionally charged as Mr. Doherty described the plight of a 50 yo mother being evicted.
The presenters cut straight away to giggling and laughing about people taking off shoes - #tonedeaf
This episode & #StartrekPicardSeason3 in general has been perfect so far, imo- the positives and joy it has brought has overshadowed any nit pics. #Thankyou to all involved.
I also disagree with Gemma O'Doherty on many things (eg her position on gays) but I tend to agree with her in relation to the lockdowns (unconstitutional) & the vaccines (damaging for some). Shame on Independent for this guilt by association article.

Star Trek: #StarfleetAcademy is coming to @ParamountPlus! From executive producers @Alex_Kurtzman and @NogaLandau, the series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. #StarTrek
The example of Google's share price going down because it held back it's #AI relative to its competitors, coupled with a lack of understanding from regulators & the fact that different countries have different regulatory environments doesn't auger too well for this happening 🤞😬
#BREAKING: Elon Musk & Steve Wozniak Ask for a Pause on A.I due to ‘Profound Risks to Society’
Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Andrew Yang and other key figures have called for an immediate pause on A.I. due to the profound risk it poses society.
The issues they highlighted were:
1. A.I. developers are locked in a race to deploy powerful digital ‘minds’ that even the creators cannot understand, predict or control.
2. Gary Marcus argued that A.I. is unnecessarily shaping the direction of our world.
3. “A.I. development has seen corporate irresponsibility, widespread adoption, lack of regulation and a huge number of unknowns”.
4. Elon Musk asked for a pause on systems that are more powerful than GPT-4 to introduce safety protocols.
5. The first letter asks for government intervention to institute a moratorium, if there isn’t an immediate pause.
6. A.I. development should only continue once we know it’s positive impact, and that we can manage the risks
Can A.I. lead to a dystopian future?
Will the world follow the recommendations of @elonmusk and @stevewoz?
