Almighty ever-living God,
who gave Saint Anthony of Padua to your people
as an outstanding preacher and an intercessor in their need,
grant that, with his assistance,
as we follow the teachings of the Christian life,
we may know your help in every trial.
@EricRSammons This recent encyclical was a good summary of Catholic social teaching, and explain Christian anthropology of what it means to be human. That part was good.
Middle Ages: God centered. Man needs reform through grace. Result: Hope.
Modernity: Man centered. Man is capable of achieving anything. God is irrelevant. Result: Pride
Postmodernity: No center. Man is broken with no reference to what can heal. Result: despair.
@dlongenecker1@JoshuaBarzon I heard the US Bishops are developing a New Catholic Translation and with a NEW lectionary. The verses included in the new Breviary are already complete so ALL our scripture will match in all our liturgical books.
Remember, June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The US bishops are consecrating the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, 2026.
@benshapiro At one time there was place to ask questions: I have a question for Ben. At one time he would speak more frequently about being Jewish. I would love to hear Ben's thought on the distinction between Sephardic Jews and Ashkenazi Jews.
In the midst of war & evil, this barefoot mother brings her daughter for first communion.
As satan seems to rule, faith slips this little piece of normalcy into life, saying: "Yes, there is still good in the world!"
These little humble moments of grace will be how Christians win.
Tomorrow, May 15th, is the 4th anniversary of St. Charles de Foucauld being canonized by Pope Francis.
His is a great story of grace and conversion, and his life of holiness inspired 20 groups of religious orders, priest groups and lay institutes.
@BibleInContext1 Which old Testament: Babylonian canon? Palestinian canon? Alexandrian canon? The Old Testament was not officially canonized until about AD 90 when they CONDEMNED all the new Testament books, so we cannot see that as divinely inspired.
Tomorrow is Mother's day: Beginning the day with Mass and praying for your mom, or if you are able: With your mom, is a great way to start.
“Give me just one generation of good Catholic mothers, and I will change the world.” St. John Chrysostom
Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Catherine of Siena. She is a Doctor of the Church.
Interesting fact: Catherine was 24th of 25 children all with the same mother and father. She had 24 siblings.
Her famous quote:
“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire”
I love the medieval sense of humor. They carved this into a Cathedral above one of the doors into the Church.
Abbey of Sainte Foy, Conques, France. A.D. 1050.
